I am looking for a feature or plug in that shows if New Posts have been made to a thread during the time you were creating the post.
I hope this makes sense. I can explain in more detail if needed.
Thanks.

I have a few questions.
1. Are you talking about having it show you what replies were made to a thread while you were replying to the same thread?
2. Are you taking about having the forum show you ALL posts that were made on the entire forum while you were creating a topic or replying to another thread?

Sorry (I was trying to post my question before getting a puppy out to do her thing prior to a storm coming) I should have been more clear 2. Are you taking about having the forum show you ALL posts that were made on the entire forum while you were creating a topic or replying to another thread?

Thanks. Hi BusyMother Maybe one of the coders like Chris , Peter , or Bennett 🚀 can see a way of doing this without violating the developer guidelines, but personally I can't. JavaScript can only work with what's on the page. I don't think any information on the page is updated while you are in the process of writing your post.

This topic was broached a few years ago in this thread. A mechanism for doing this within the coding guidelines was discussed and a test plugin was even created but the mechanism seemed too unreliable to me (was not consistently doing what I was expecting) so it went no further. I suspect Peter did more in-depth research in that area given the comments I've read from him over the years.

The only way would to be to keep track of every post that is posted and the timestamp they posted it at, and then filter that list based on when the last time you completed an action. It wouldn't necessarily be unfathomable, but could get unwieldy depending on how often that super key needed to be written to. And then it would eventually need to auto-prune itself, so at some point posts would get lost if say you have an active forum and missed > 100 posts.. And this way would only work after actually posting / doing an action, and not async like what Chris linked to.

Thank you ALL for replying. I completely understand. No problem at all. It was just a thought. My forum has been running great as is now (thanks to PB and all the help I get here) and I am good.
Thanks again ALL,

It was a very GOOD thought. I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't want this if it would have been possible.
