What is a word you'd use to describe a person that's into D&D, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, Disney, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings?
The reason for my question is because I wanted to add a board called "Geek/Nerd Culture" to generalize those topics with specific sub-boards added it.
I just don't want to offend or upset anyone by using that wording so I am looking for opinions. I just can't think of another word for it and Google wasn't any help.
(I realize there will always be people who disagree and will be offended no matter what I'm just trying to find what the majority of Proboards users would likely prefer or use themselves).

Personal opinion, i don't see geek or nerd offensive (as long as it's not uused in a derogatory sense), i used to be a staff member of ''the geek group' until they had to shut down, i'm a high voltage geek. Many people describe themselves as geeks or nerds.
Hoow about gamer or gaming ?

I think Nerd is okay for the categories you list. Geek is more geared towards gadgets & gizmos really.

A big problem with todays cultures is theres no meat on their bones. A person should be smart enough to tell when someone says something out of hate.

I don't consider geek or nerd to be offensive, but I grew up at a different time where people could better understand context and intent of words.
I was voted "Mrs. Technology" in my senior yearbook which was pretty much calling me a computer nerd. I still love that title.
Some of these may or may not be helpful in leading you to a word you want to use.
Artsy. Bibliophile. Bookworm. Geek. Intellectual. Nerd. Savant. Scholar. Techie. Technophile. Trekkie.

Something like "Cult Culture" (I'm a fan of alliteration) or "Niche Culture" might fit for some of those. Others, like Star Wars and Harry Potter, I think are more mainstream and have a much broader audience.

Many people describe themselves as geeks or nerds. Hoow about gamer or gaming ? I already have a gaming section and I wouldn't consider anything I would be adding to be gaming except for D&D to be honest. Though I greatly appreciate and value your response. Thank you very much for your feedback. I think Nerd is okay for the categories you list. Geek is more geared towards gadgets & gizmos really. I agree though I feel like some people are not actually sure of the difference between those two words. A big problem with todays cultures is theres no meat on their bones. A person should be smart enough to tell when someone says something out of hate. True. Trekkie. We're close enough in age (according to your profile) that I was entering high school almost right after you graduated high school. I definitely know what you mean about people back then not getting upset over every little thing but these last few years, everyone seems to be getting upset over everything so I'd prefer a majority agreement from the active Proboards community to make sure I wouldn't be offending too many of the active users these days. (Not to mention I actually value and appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions from everyone that's been replying to me, thank you all very much.) Something like "Cult Culture" (I'm a fan of alliteration) or "Niche Culture" might fit for some of those. Others, like Star Wars and Harry Potter, I think are more mainstream and have a much broader audience. "Cult Culture" sounds kind of cool. I just don't want anyone to think I'm worshiping Satan or something. Lol. (That's what the word "Cult" makes me think of since that was the first time I heard that word being used.) I'd consider everything I mentioned (Disney, DC, Marvel, etc) to all be pretty mainstream to be honest. I just feel that back in the day people were called "Geeks" and "Nerds" for being into comic books, D&D and Star Wars back then. (Completely basing this off movies and TV shows I've watched growing up. I wasn't even born until 1989). I know I have friends around my age who are actually proud to be a geek or nerd. I also know we currently live in an Era where the younger generation gets upset about almost everything.

Perhaps you can just start off with a board for all entertainment. Allow your members to post suggestions for a name for the parent board after they see the sub-boards. Starting of with something general like "Leisure & Entertainment" makes it hard to be offensive.

I already have a lot of sub-boards for my Entertainment board already lol at this point I should maybe give it it's own category. That is a good idea though about letting my members think of a name based on the sub-boards though. (Except I just started my site last weekend and don't really have many members yet.) I was going to get everything situated before I started working on gathering members to be honest. I work during the week (except today it varies) so I only have a chance to make adjustments to my site on weekends.

Then you won't have to worry about unique names for each one. Having too many boards will make your forum look deader than it is. I see nothing wrong with all different types of media being discussed in one place. You won't have to worry about labels. It's up to you though.

I think my OCD kicks in where I just want everything organized. To be honest I was only considering to have 3 categories (general, members and staff) with a total of about 10 boards and about 20 sub-boards. That was my original idea where I don't think that's too many. But that's just a personal opinion. I think it starts to get bad if I give sub-boards too many sub-boards... which I "kind of" started doing... >_<

I wouldn't even suggest sub-boards on a new forum. I understand that you want things to be organized, but sometimes people end up with clutter. Here's an example. Say you have a desk in an office. Do you want 20 pen holders, each holding a different type of pen? One holder for blue gel pens. One holder for black ballpoint pens. One holder for red pens. One holder for thin pens. One holder for medium pens. Or would you prefer 1-2 holders where you can find everything in 1-2 places?

LOL I'll likely be making adjustments this weekend. You're not wrong though. I don't think having sub-boards is a bad idea on the condition I try to avoid sub-sub-boards and as long as I don't have too many. (Main reason for my sub-boards to begin with is to avoid unnecessary scrolling on the main page. I don't like entering a website where I have to scroll down for a while to see everything. I've seen a few sites like that and although they had a decent amount of active members, the site overall looked too "bulky")

I think the opposite is true too though. You are making this decision based on a big forum with everything thrown in one place. A big forum can benefit from having more boards. Do you think your members will feel overwhelmed trying to find the perfect place to make a topic on a new forum? My personal opinion is to start small and expand as necessary. That's just an opinion though.
