I'm thinking about it this year and wondering if I'll be allowed to invite over my family!! What about visiting them? If indoor gatherings are banned at stores, I wonder if that includes private homes. How do you personally feel if you'll miss out on a family dinner this year? I know i'll be disappointed.

We are having similar conversations, but not just about Thanksgiving, but Christmas, birthdays, etc. Do we go? If so, does everyone wear a mask? Hard to know what to do.

I don't care one bit. Family gatherings have never been something that interested me very much. Even if the family decides to get together, I don't have any intention to attend this year. I'm not particularly afraid of COVID, but it makes a convenient excuse.
That goes for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I haven't thought that far ahead, but this is a good question. Where we usually celebrate is an extremely small house with a very large family (lots of kids too) it may be a good idea to forgo the celebration this year unless a miracle happens and a viable vaccine is found and administered to everyone!

I’ve volunteered to work Christmas Day, given that this year is basically a write off and it’s not as though we’ll be able to socialise much anyway.

10+ indoor gatherings are banned here, including private residences, last I checked. We recently had a small get-together with my hubby's family, basically what we would have done back in March for St. Patrick's Day, for a corned beef and cabbage dinner at my brother-in-law's house. There were only 6 of us though (3 of whom are 75 and older), so we didn't worry too much, and this was about 3 weeks ago and everyone is feeling fine. We weren't wearing masks either. So that's what we will probably do again for Thanksgiving, because I'm sure this will still be going on by then also. I can imagine it is going to be much different for larger families though. Ultimately, I guess if they want to risk it, that's up to them. My brother just had a large birthday party for my nephew at the end of July, and I'm told there were about 30 people there. I don't agree with that, especially because my dad was there, who has an underlying blood condition and it would have been dangerous if he caught it. He had to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arriving back in the state he lives in.

We have been doing small gatherings here within my own family. Usually restricting to just a couple siblings and their children in each family gathering. A number of my siblings have been worried about potentially catching or spreading stuff, so they don't want to get in moderately large groups yet, even among family.

Many of the towns in the state that I live in are rolling back to phase two. Restaurants, bars, small businesses, etc. are going to go belly up at this point. I can see that eventually, we are going to get back to the pre-phase point and all be allowed to do mostly nothing and go mostly nowhere.
I still haven't been allowed to see my Mom in the nursing home. I don't want to have to go back to doing my grocery shopping on-line~!

My whole family has decided not to do Thanksgiving dinner together this year. My mom will be cooking a small turkey breast for my grandma and I with a few of the fixings. However, since my grandma is almost a nonagenarian, we aren't sure how many more years we'll have with her, so we are going to get a small Christmas tree and allow our extended families to come visit her, one family at a time throughout the day. Everyone will be required to wear masks throughout the visit, to wash their hands, and to remain an acceptable distance from grandma. She won't get to hug and kiss all of her great-great grandchildren, but she'll at least get to see everyone and I hope it will be a good Christmas for her.
