The air quality is so poor here in Ridgecrest right now. I’m trying to sleep, but the smell of the fires 🔥 is intense, even inside. We only have swamp coolers, which just draws it in, and we’re in the middle of a heat wave. We can even see ash in the air! We’re at 114 air quality and it’s supposed to get to 156 by Friday. Yesterday we couldn’t even see the sun! TODAY 9/8 114 AQI Unhealthy Health effects can be immediately felt by sensitive groups. Healthy individuals may experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation with prolonged exposure. Limit outdoor activity. WEDNESDAY 9/9 75 AQI Poor The air has reached a high level of pollution and is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Reduce time spent outside if you are feeling symptoms such as difficulty breathing or throat irritation. THURSDAY 9/10 142 AQI Unhealthy Health effects can be immediately felt by sensitive groups. Healthy individuals may experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation with prolonged exposure. Limit outdoor activity. FRIDAY 9/11 156 AQI Very Unhealthy Health effects will be immediately felt by sensitive groups and should avoid outdoor activity. Healthy individuals are likely to experience difficulty breathing and throat irritation; consider staying indoors and rescheduling outdoor activities.

We're by the El Dorado fire here. I feel like the air just cleared up from the last fire in that area before we got this. The sky is orange and hazy and gross. I was already staying inside because it was 120 degrees but I also enjoy not coughing my lungs up so I think I'll stay inside. Be safe!

We had a fire start on the ranch out behind our place a few weeks back. They got it out before it grew to anything worth while.
But our place backs right up to the wilderness boundary, so it'll be interesting when it finally does catch on fire. Doesn't really rattle me much though, because I grew up in wildfire country and was evacuated a few times from my childhood home. You just need to have that mental check-list of what's most important to you if you don't have time to grab what you need.

I remember those smokey skies, slowing to a crawl driving on 14 to work at either EAFB or Palmdale!

I live in Northern CA and the air quality is terrible. I'm sneezing and coughing all the time and my nose and throat feel like they are on fire (excuse the pun). I've had to call in lots of refills on inhalers and the like as well, since a lot of my patients are having asthma exacerbations thanks to the fires. It's a dreadful time for all, to be sure.

Yeah, I'm getting refills on mine for sure. I went out for 30 seconds to take a photo of the sky and that was all took to give me a massive coughing fit lmao. It's disgusting outside. I was driving back to my house from San Diego yesterday and it looked overcast/foggy, except it was all smoke. I hope we figure out more ways to be proactive about dealing with our fire season.

Another case of public policy (and public perception) running contrary to science. Easy to understand why that happens, though.

It seems that the smoke from the western wildfires have reached the East Coast. But in a few days it will be chillier here in Connecticut. In the meantime, we still need a lot of rain, and we may not be getting any for days.

I can't even imagine how bad it is being in California. But each night in Iowa, I have had the windows open and you can smell the smoke and it's made the skies hazy during the day.
Hopefully they can get these under control soon so people can breathe normally again.

My coworkers in St. Louis tell me that the skies are hazy and tinted orange with no clouds! I'm dealing with Sally's constant rain, so I don't know if it has reached the Panhandle of Fl. yet.
