During quarantine, I've been eating books whole on my days off. I sort of rediscovered Animorphs while this whole plague thing's been going on, and I forgot how good it was. Every book, I'm right there with the kids, and even if the dialogue and technology's a little dated here and there, it still feels real.
Anyway.
That was pretty much it. I'd love to hear people's best/worst memories about the series, or hear what their favorite book was.
For me, my favorite memory of the series was the first book I ever picked up.
#11, The Forgotten.
Seeing a kid turn into a jaguar was enough for me to buy it based off of the cover, and reading, I was immediately thrown into Baby's First Scifi. Between the Sario Rip, learning what the heck an andalite was, and reading about Visser Three's terrifying Lerdethak morph, I was hooked.
The worst, was this reread. I'd just restarted #5, The Predator a few weeks back. The books are quick reads, and I spend my lunch break returning to the world.
Now I'm in my thirties. No longer the pre-teen that had started the series on a whim. I've had personal losses, and when I got to the reveal of Marco's mom, I cried.
Loss never gets easier, and rereading this old find from Scholastic was like a gut punch.
Hands down, my favorite book will always be #25, The Extreme.
It's a stupid romp in the arctic, and I hate almost everything about the circumstances of the adventure. It's a complete throw-away title, but eighteen years later, and I still have a crush on Marco. Even the bad books are still a yes for me.
How about you?
