As sad as it is we loose great members so I'm making a poll for a board where we can honor fallen members, instead of the threads getting lost in GT. Users that have been here a long time go too soon it would be sad to have them forgotten when threads in GT become lost or sunk down to the bottom. I'm also recommending we leave topics in this board open so users can share their grief and memories of them.

If you have someone in mind not on the list you could suggest their inclusion to one of our admins.

If any admins see this, can I request that support.proboards.com/user/70978 is added to the RIP member group please? Conquestor77 passed away in 2006 so maybe there arent many who remember him. He was also a bit of a pain to some of the mods, but he was a good kid really and far too young when he died. Definitely a part of this community at the time, in the same way the others in the group are. I don’t really see the point in a memorial board though.

Yeah he was. He was one of the first people around here that I interacted with, first as a newbie member and then as one of the mods that he annoyed with what, in retrospect, was pretty trivial and quaint. Good guy with a lot of potential that was gone too soon.

I wish there was a Maybe option.
Having read the comments, I can see both sides.
I know that a Memorial Board would have helped me upon returning, especially since I didn't realize Tobi was gone. But I also realize that this is Support and that might be seen as morbid too.
I think one could work, but I think it would need to be a sub-board or similar to the Art one.

I think he was a bored teenager who enjoyed winding people up, in pretty harmless ways, in GT. In PMs he came across as a decent, smart guy. It’s so sad to think that he was so young, and of all the things that have happened in my life in the last 14 years (getting a degree, buying a house, getting married etc) that he may have done too in that time.

Do you think we should have one? I voted yes, but I think there's much more to be discussed. To begin with, it would be prone to abuse if anyone could start a thread there. And in my humble opinion, it would require more than just a little Staff attention. For that reason, I could imagine the forum staff might be hesitant to adopt this idea. If the staff approves, there are many different ways this could be managed. Here's one possible scheme. - In Memoriam could be a sub-board of General Talk. Only staff members would be able to create threads there. Or an existing thread in General Talk could be moved there by a staff member.
- Another sub-board could be created to allow users to create a thread to recommend a deceased member to be honored and/or submit a draft of a thread in that member's honor. This sub-board would be set to Private, so only the forum staff and the ThreadStarter would have access.
- A clearly stated set of Rules would be present in the header for In Memoriam sub-board, advising that a high level of restraint would be required in any reply. Basically if you can't say something good about the deceased, don't say anything at all. Also, arguments between those replying will not be tolerated. Etc.
- A stickied 'master thread' with a representation of each member's mini-profile and a link to their honor thread would be possible. Or perhaps just a representation of the honoree's mini-profile could be presented in the OP of each honor thread.
Mini-Profile representations might look something like this:

I see user cp7 is in the group. Also, when I look at recent threads support.proboards.com/user/70978/recent_threads, only his seven most recent thread are open. The rest are all locked. OMG! Must have been quite a character.

I think the member group is already a great idea for this sort of thing. Threads would be vulnerable to too much abuse if not restricted or moderated. But sharing grief/memories is something I like the idea of.
