Hi all
I've returned to Proboards after having been a way from quite some time. Very glad my old forum is still working but all my custom images are not showing up. I've checked the links in the settings and all appears to be in order...
Here's an example one... it's still hosted and can be referred to in these ways:
The theme appears to be enabled. Is there something I'm missing?
I also noticed that many of my old screenshots (in posts) were not showing up but when I go into the posts, click Edit, then Preview and Save them, they suddenly appear.
Strange stuff!
Many thanks, M.

Hi martyrofminhThe Help Guide article: Help - My images are not displaying on my forum should shed some light on the subject and guide you through the necessary steps it will take to resolve your issue. Please let me know it you are successful. If you need further help, please post the URL of your forum, and also links to the threads or pages where you are experiencing problems. That way we can see the problem in-situ. Edit: ninja'd by Kami

Thank you both for your replies. I did already check the 'Help' are but was not successful. Thought maybe there was some known issue with older sites. The URL is: martyrofminh.proboards.com/

The URL is: martyrofminh.proboards.com/Hi martyrofminh When I look at the Home page of the forum to which you linked, I see a situation that fits exactly with what is described in the Help guide article. The icons in the left-most column are not being displayed. Instead, we see the alt text: No New PostsThe image you're using for the No New Posts icon is linked to a third-party site, not hosted directly on your forum. http://minh.vcclan.net/images/forum/folders/dot.gif The minh.vcclan.net host does not have a SSL certificate. Unless you own that site and can apply for a SSL certificate, your best course of action would be to Save the images you're using from that site to your computer. Then upload those images to the theme, rather than link to them.

I had not noticed the FAQ board - I only searched the Help Guide Index and came up with nothing. Now I see the post you referred to is the very first one in the FAQ board! I had considered it to be related to SSL but saw my banner there and assumed that was also linked but in fact it's not. Anyway, thank you for your assistance. I will have to upload them all one by one as I will need more time to figure out the other things that could potentially break if I switch the domain to https. Thanks again

Now I see the post you referred to is the very first one in the FAQ board! No worries, friend. I noticed there is an absence of a link to the FAQ sub-board. I'll discuss that with the-powers-that-be and ask if some changes to the Index are in order. It looks like you've gotten started on re-hosting icons directly on your theme. Good luck with that and if you have more questions regarding the images, feel free to ask!

I found my local files and have been uploading them and adjusting a few things. I may have to post a separate thread about the custom menu images I assigned in my theme - which don't seem to be appearing. Great idea to update the Help Guide Index for sure. I would also suggest that it would be great to see some on-page text in a few key locations to advise people of the requirements in-context.
For example, where we see a button to link images - perhaps a phrase like "Linked images must be hosted on an https/SSL server" would be helpful?

I may have to post a separate thread about the custom menu images I assigned in my theme - which don't seem to be appearing. If those are in a location where they are visible to me as a guest, I might be able to advise you here. If not, you could create a new thread on the Support Board and a ProBoards Admin might be able to help you when they are in their office tomorrow. (Their office hours can be found here: link ) In either case, be sure to describe how to navigate to the place where the images are not appearing.

Yea they should be visible at the top of the page under the header image.
I assumed the bar background is set in: Advanced Styles & CSS > Visual Editor > Forum > Header (Top) > Navigation Bar > Background Image (in the theme settings). But any change I make to that background image doesn't seem to have an effect - whether custom upload or chosen from available options.
Additionally, a long time ago, I set up the custom button images themselves to link to my hosting but have now uploaded them where they were previously broken in Theme Settings > Images > Custom Theme Images. But they do not seem to be applied to that nav bar.
Maybe there is a way to apply them to the bar I am missing? I can't see an obvious id or class reference in the HTML structure as a way to identify them so I can apply the images via custom CSS.

But any change I make to that background image doesn't seem to have an effect - whether custom upload or chosen from available options. Yes, that's exactly where you should be to specify the background-image for the entire navigation bar. What's happening right now is that the background-image for #navigation-menu is this: http://clanofminh.vcclan.net/minh/images/vc/vc_forum_header_bg.jpg which of course won't display because that host isn't SSL. But the image itself is apparently the same as the image you're using for the title bars: //storage.proboards.com/1088137/images/ctxfkqosFVTNhUUVhFds.jpg I can't see the Style Sheet the way you do, in your Admin panel. But the output file has this: #navigation-menu{background-image:url("http://clanofminh.vcclan.net/minh/images/vc/vc_forum_header_bg.jpg") !important;} ... which looks very wrong to me. As if someone might have edited that directly into the Style Sheet. If you'd like to copy/paste the entire contents of the Style Sheet for that theme into a post in this thread, I can probably repair it. Just be sure to wrap it in code tags.
before the contents of the Style Sheet and
after the contents. Without those tags, you'll be tagging several members of the forum whose usernames are the same as the style sheet variables. lol

Thanks for offering to look at the nav bar background Retread but i followed your advice and swapped the image reference to the local Proboards uploaded one. I'm cool with that.
The main issue I really would like to solve is in my own quote above. I uploaded all the broken non-SSL linked images for my nav bar menu buttons. But cannot find where to apply them to my nav menu. Is it in the theme settings somewhere I've not found maybe?

martyrofminh, I'm struggling to understand what those images where meant to do. Are they replacements for the text normally found in the Nav Bar? If so, how was that accomplished? By use of a plugin?

martyrofminh , I'm struggling to understand what those images where meant to do. Are they replacements for the text normally found in the Nav Bar? If so, how was that accomplished? By use of a plugin? Thanks for your patience and assistance. I too am struggling - to remember how it was done. It was 15 years ago. At that time, I believe the editing features allowed for custom images to be set for each navigation button. I doubt it was by use of a plugin as I never trusted them but I guess it's possible. Regardless, I remembered a little selector friend in CSS3 :nth-child(n) which has allowed me to assign the images as backgrounds to each nav button eg. #navigation-menu > ul li:nth-child(1) {..background-image etc..}
I do need to make two new buttons since there are two additional menu buttons that were not there originally: Bookmarks and Messages.
It seems I'll be more comfortable working in the Advanced Styles & CSS > Style Sheet page rather than the Visual Editor as I understand how it's all working. I still have a couple of things to work out but should be good now.
Thanks again - very much - for all your help!

Thanks again - very much - for all your help! You're welcome, martyrofminh 🙂 If it's necessary changes directly to the Style Sheet, I recommend placing the changes at the bottom, preceded by /* comments and/or descriptions */ You can still use your Colors & Theme Creator or your Visual Editor but if they don't make a change you should normally expect, you can go straight to the bottom of the Style Sheet.
