I'm cleaning out the garage. Mind you, the stuff has been there for ten years. Do I really have the motivation to sell anything to make a few bucks? I could pack up the truck, bring it to goodwill, and be done with the clutter. If you were doing this, would you donate or sell?

If you were doing this, would you donate or sell? It depends on the value of the merch, how much time I have, and my financial situation at the time. I might sell, or I might take some or all to a charitable organization, or I might post a curb alert on craigslist.

I'd make three piles: Sell (for stuff that's somewhat valuable), donate (for less-valuable stuff that's still in good condition), and trash.

Sell what you can, donate or give away what's left.

I agree with Syko Nachoman. I'd sell what's valuable and worth the sale of it, then I'd donate what I could. Anything that the Goodwill wouldn't take would be sent to the dump.

If I am going to get rid of stuff, I would donate anything that is in good condition that isn't worth it to me anymore to keep in the house. Anything that is no longer usable, I trash. Anything that is a keepsake of some sort, I either keep or sell (Example, I have a half ounce gold wind up pocket watch).

I'd make three piles: Sell (for stuff that's somewhat valuable), donate (for less-valuable stuff that's still in good condition), and trash. This is what I’ve done when sorting rooms out. The “somewhat valuable” pile I judge on whether the value is worth the effort of selling. I’ve definitely given a few things to charity shops that had value, but the effort of listing them somewhere and potentially posting wasn’t worth it when a charity shop could probably make a bit more money.

I'd only consider selling what would be real valuable to me, for the rest I would donate

I would sell what I deem valuable (I.e. What a lot of people would want), then donate everything else.
