Do any of you have Thanksgiving plans this year or are you heeding the edict to stay home in extremely small groups?

Our thanksgiving is up in the air now, as the family we were going to potentially visit, is currently under a 10 or under limit for get together.

We don't visit family anyway since our extended family is small and spread out all over the country. Typically we'll invite anyone who needs a place to go to join us, so we probably won't do that this year, but that's not a big change either.

We will be at home. We have immunocompromised, so we don't want to risk it. Plus, the boys will be virtual learning that week and part of the next, so it's easy to stay home. We will celebrate here and just enjoy the four days of having to do nothing and be together. (Well, my wife will have to work some I believe, but not bad otherwise).

At this point after hearing what my "lovely" governor restricted it may be no go this year.

I have the same plan every year: start with the turkey and work clockwise around the plate.

We are both in high risk categories physically. We both essential workers. We will be staying home!
We just - as in 10 minutes ago - decided that we will be doing a non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner in this rather non-traditional year.

Well, I'm going against my good sense and going over to my sister's -I know I'm making a mistake by doing this. Greg and I were sort of planning to go to a restaurant -at least there we'd be served by sterilized waiters and 6 feet from the next group!

My partner and I have agreed with our families that we will be staying home this year, and we'll have Zoom video chats instead. His brother might come over since the three of us are low-risk and never leave our houses. We definitely don't want to risk our aging parents and grandparents, though...
I'm going to try and cook a full dinner for us. I've never cooked a turkey before, so we'll see how that goes. I have no problem with sides and pies, so if the turkey is wrong, at least there will be something tasty. 😂

I have no problem with sides and pies, so if the turkey is wrong, at least there will be something tasty. 😂 This is something worthy of research. You can probably cook a turkey and present a good (and healthy) product by just using common sense. But a bit of knowledge can make the difference between good and great. There are LOTS of steps involved so planning ahead is crucial. Selecting the right-sized bird. Allowing enough time to thaw (if frozen) Preparation and brining or not. Basting or not basting. Monitoring internal temperature. Protecting the white meat so it doesn't over-cook. Resting. Presentation (carving). Unless you have mad knife-skills (personally I don't) you might find it more appropriate to carve the turkey in the kitchen then present it to your guests pre-carved at the dining table. Although there's a tradition to carve the turkey at the table, that can be clumsy and messy if you don't have experience. Here's a link to a starting point that include many of the factors you'll want to consider and plan for: www.chatelaine.com/food/kitchen-tips/cooking-turkey-perfectly/And here's a quick video on carving:

I will be working. But me and my co-workers will mostly do something at work, like bring a dish or something.
