I am not looking forward to V6. I created my forum to talk with others, not have to figure out bells & whistles. I understand technology advances but you can't leave behind those of us who are 1- on a desktop, 2- want simplicity. While I can compromise on the mobile devices, just have V6 be like V5 & if people want add-ons, let them install it individually as a CHOICE. Don't make us have to learn more & more things. Life is too short & we have other priorities outside the 'net.

hahaha I just wrote this too. I should have read the comments first, but "I still miss v4" immediately popped into my head and I had to say it. I am sooo happy I'm not the only one!! I've been without a laptop for a while and before that my life got insanely busy so I stopped coming on Proboards altogether for almost a year. I just got on a few minutes ago and saw the board for v6. My heart immediately broke. I was sooo excited to get my new laptop and immediately got on here because I want to create a role playing site again, but knowing it's about to dramatically change all over again is really REALLY disappointing. It's like Proboards becomes less and less user friendly every single year. Soon they're going to have barely anyone on here because it'll only be for highly skilled coders - and most of us originally came here for the ease of building a site. Not because we wanted to spend months, hours every day, just to learn how to code to then create a site. dookie, if I wanted to learn how to code, I would do so and then just build my own site from scratch! I shouldn't have to use a site to build a site, and then still learn how to build the entire damn thing *sighs*

Am not looking forward to having to redo a bunch of themes, plugins and the like, come V6.

Personally, no, I'm not going to miss v5. I've been waiting years, like the rest of you on V6 to come out. As a designer myself, I am super glad to be catching up with the times as far as design and implementation go. I've stopped making themes for V5. V6 will be much easier to design for in my personal opinion and I can't wait.

I actually cannot wait for the new version to be available to us all.
So no not going to miss v5. Just wish v6 was available already for the rest of us.

We always miss the old familiar because it lives in our comfort zone. I don't really like new major update because the transition is highly unlikely to go smooth. That's just the universal Murphy law Also my site has come to depend on the plugin library a lot, it's huge for me and I dread the real possibility that we will loose some of these gems because of incompatibility or because their authors are no longer active and won't update them. on the other hand 75% of my site traffic is mobile and V6 finally managed to make all of the extras working on mobile so this is pretty huge too. So yeah..you guessed it it's a love/hate relashionship!

V-6 only looks different with everything in a different spot. What's to miss about V-5 ?

No. I like some of the features it brought, but v5 was a huge step backward for ProBoards and they missed so many marks when it came to role-plays. They failed to keep up with what role players want, and now the vast majority of the current role plays moved onto different software. v4 was the golden era for RPG software for ProBoards. Many requests that were made for these were ignored or not executed properly.
ProBoards v5 gutted the ALT + D shortcut and an admin basically ignored at some people over it saying they won't be fixing it. ALT + D was the common address bar shortcut. But, ProBoards changed that. CTRL + L came later.
ProBoards mobile view has failed to keep up. It's been made difficult. The WYSIWYG editor has been known to butcher any appearance codes or modify your code for you.
v5 broke most RPGs and scared them away. I highly doubt they'd ever come back to ProBoards in the numbers they once were, because the RPGs were ignored.
v3/v4 were great. I've been here since 2001 on my PRoBoard RPG
I miss v4. There are two providers that got copies of v3, but if they got v4 so many woud've jumped ship because v5 was an absolute failure in the rpg world.
Also one thing I want to keep in mind about the influence of RPGs, ProBoards during v4 ADVERTISED the design capabilities of RPGs to show off publicly in marketing campaigns. RPGs create the most beautiful manipulations of software.

I can't really answer this without knowing what exactly is going to be different, but I am hoping that V6 will allow for more templates and layout changes without having to know CSS.
