Sorry, I could have been more clear. I think you found an older/other post. After I originally installed the first version of this plugin I was able to get it to work by taking the video ID (from the full URL) and using it in both the link embed (which I believe used to work) and the movie embed but now neither work. Here's the post where I was trying it multiple ways but couldn't get it to work like it was previously: Currently it works but since it's set up using a plugin that means when on the mobile view or possibly when using the mobile app it won't work properly. You can switch the browser to Desktop view in most cases and that should help but not ideal. I think I read something about the upgrade to the next version of proboards (no clue when that will be as it's been worked on for a few years now) that mobile view will support plugins. Anyway, if you want to post it on here anyway you do the following: Basically you just need to copy the URL of the video that looks like this: https://www.tiktok.com/@[b]{username}[/b]/video/[b]{video ID}[/b] And try to link to it like a website link (not a video). dEDIT: Not working lol. Will have to tinker with it and see if it will work.

Will have to tinker with it and see if it will work.I'm unfortunately not seeing any link in that quoted post fitting the description of the URL required by TikTok for their oEmbed protocol Using a video tag is NOT CORRECT:[video]7077673276419427627[/video] The plugin requires an hyperlink and has never worked with the video tag. Basically you just need to copy the URL of the video that looks like this: https://www.tiktok.com/@{username}/video/{video ID}* username and video ID will vary depending on the video which is why they are in curly brackets, the actual URLs won't contain those brackets (example:https://www.tiktok.com/@unoamanii/video/7044698600533708038)You then add a hyperlink to your post by any of the following methods: |
---|
Easy: Use the insert hyperlink button :
Easy: Simply copy and paste the URL (can only use if automatic hyperlinking is enabled on your forum):
You would need to enable the feature on your forum that automatically creates a link when you paste if you wish for it to operate that way else you have to specifically create a link. * setting it to "no" on my test forum caused pasted text URLs to automatically be made clickable
add as a V5 BBCode link:
add as a V4 BBCode link (opens in same window):
add as a v4 BBCode url(opens in new window):
|
If you have any other URL that does not look like the above format when creating the link, such as vm.tiktok.com/TTPdPq1g8Y or m.tiktok.com/v/6726553443009383682 then pasting that URL in the address bar of your browser (in a new tab) will open the tiktok website and redirect to the original URL which you can then copy from the address bar and use in your post.

I knew a video embed shouldn't work but I was testing things out. I originally told people to use a URL.
Thanks for the tips, I will try testing things out and will respond with results.

Okay, it seems to work now. I'm not sure if me changing the link text from "link" to something else was throwing it off but I successfully embedded the TikTok video using the web embed. Thanks so much for the plugin and the help!

Thanks so much for the plugin and the help! The plugin inspects the href of the link to determine if it is a ticktok link and doesn't really care what is in the text of the link except to see that it is not blank to avoid the occasional duplicate empty link anomaly. *Inspect my last post in this thread for an example of a malformed link ..last 2 links

JHC this is above my processor ability, I'm going to wait until my son wakes up and I'll just ask him to show me how to do this on our forum.

JHC this is above my processor ability, I'm going to wait until my son wakes up and I'll just ask him to show me how to do this on our forum. I am not seeing any plugins currently installed on that forum (I am viewing the forum as a guest). The Tik Tok feature discussed in this thread requires the installation of a plugin that was posted as a reply in this thread. Please have your son read and follow the instructions posted here to download the plugin and then upload it to your forum.

Upon completion of the plugin, this remained the case, correct?

Upon completion of the plugin, this remained the case, correct? the plugin employs an API provided by TikTok, if the API does not support mobile URLs then the plugin definitely cannot support mobile URLs.

I will admit I am totally unfamiliar with Tik Tok and only been to their site to see what API's if any they offered after seeing this thread. They do support the oEmbed protocol so I created a rudimentary plugin employing that protocol to turn links dropped into a post into their embedded equivalents. It's a newborn alpha version with no fancy bells and whistles and comes preconfigured to recognize tik tok links of the form https://www.tiktok.com/@{username}/video/{video ID}. If there are other forms a tik tok url can take then they can be added to the plugin's autoform using the first (preconfigured) entry as a template. The API only allows for the original URLPlease offer some feedback so it can be improved upon (thumbnails, responsiveness, etc.) and also note that it is written to support any site that supports the oEmbed protocol not just Tik Tok. FAQs:- Does this plugin work on mobile devices?
Plugins do not work on mobile for the current version 5 platform but will when Proboards version 6 is released (no release date). If you have a mobile URL such as https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdPq1g8Y/ or https://m.tiktok.com/v/6726553443009383682 it will not work, you can however open that URL in a browser window on a desktop and TikTok will redirect that URL to the original that can then be used. Only URLs that use the following pattern are acceptable: https://www.tiktok.com/@{username}/video/{video ID}
- Why is it still not working even though I am using the correct URL?
Make sure the URL is an actual link (can be clicked and opened in the browser). Use the insert link button () to add the URL to your post if your forum is not configured to automatically create an hyperlink when you paste it in your post.
Edits:- v0.0.2 (7 February 2021): Removed "g" flag from regex to fix bug where subsequent Tik Tok links in a post got skipped due to progressive pattern matching start index
- v0.0.3 (5 February 2022): Ignore empty anchors causing duplicate embeds and added pagination support
I want this , how can I use it?

Has anyone experienced security errors from Windows Defender while using this plugin?
I installed the newest version an hour ago. Someone posted a video. Only that thread angered Windows Defender. I can acquire and provide more information upon request.
Edit: I am not experiencing this issue or accusing Chris or his code of doing anything malicious. I am asking a question on behalf of a member who made this claim.

I'm not accusing you or your code of anything malicious by the way. I was just given half information by someone who made the claim. Sorry.
Edit: I'm not experiencing a problem myself.
