You know I've tried many different items essential oils, plug ins all work well but eventually don't last that long for me anyway, so I was wondering if you had any cheap secrets you do to your home to induce a better smell. My home is pretty clean so that's not a worry.

What's causing the odor?
For cooking smells after making something odorous, place a bowl of vinegar in the room.
Or do you just want a home that has a fragrance other than normal home smells? All the products you buy are not going to last long. If they did, the companies would not be profitable. The condition of your air can also affect how long/strong scents last. Very dry air is the worst.
Whatever you do, you're going to have to replenish it after a while. Also, you can go nose blind to a fragrance. It might be there, but you no longer notice it. Switching between scents can help with that.

I'm looking for tricks some home owners may have that not everyone thinks of, obviously not everything lasts forever but if I can save a little extra without constantly having to replace it it'd be good to know.

I'm looking for tricks some home owners may have that not everyone thinks of, obviously not everything lasts forever but if I can save a little extra without constantly having to replace it it'd be good to know. You can put essential oils on hidden pinecones, cotton balls, etc. and refresh periodically. Again, switch between scents so your brain doesn't start ignoring it. I've boiled cinnamon for a nice scent. Spray fabrics, since they hold onto the scent longer than hard surfaces, and it reactivates when the fabric is disturbed. I know someone who would attach a car air freshener to the vents for the heater or air conditioner. Put on cologne and it will waft with you. Put bars of scented soap or potpourri in your dresser drawers to lightly scent your clothes. There are some studies that show some essential oil fragrances are harmful, so you might want to do some internet research, too. Get some pine boughs and hang them around, replacing them when their scent is gone. When the weather is nice, open the windows and spray some scent on the screens. The natural airflow will disperse it nicely.

My neighbor also uses those car air fresheners on vents in his home can't really tell a difference because he uses other things also. I also read about putting some on air filters that will help but I rent so I'm iffy on that. Good suggestions

I try to keep things aired out, which helps prevent any smell from lasting too long or the air getting too stale. When it comes to actually using fragrances my go-to are the concentrated room sprays I've got from Bath and Body Works. They're deceptively strong, so one little spray ends up making half the house smell good for a while. I also like fabric sprays, though I've mostly just used them for my pillows before bed. Mostly I find a combination of small things really makes a big difference.

The friend of mine that sold houses would put dryer sheets in hidden places around the house. She swears by it.

I was wondering if you had any cheap secrets you do to your home to induce a better smell. Make sure you take a shower once a week, whether you need it or not. lol j/k Hey Ken, do you still have a cat? I would imaging the litter box could be a source of odor. During the winter months, you're likely to have fewer opportunities to allow fresh air in through open window. More frequent dusting and vacuuming is always a good thing. Also, houseplants can impart a pleasant natural scent, depending on the species. Mint is easy to grow indoors in small pots on window sills. Of course I'm not sure if your cat would tend to dig in it or smth.

wildmaven has really awesome ideas! 👌😊 You could try potpourri all it is is loose tea you can buy. I bought lemon/raspberry tea awhile back when I work in a bulk store but don't like the taste of it but I do love the smell of it so i used it as potpourri kept the room smelling nice for about a week or two. 👍 My family bought me some calming scented oils for the diffuser they bought me for Christmas. There's all kinds you buy. If you have a fireplace burn some pine needles (Oooo I miss that smell) I used to do that when I would go camping or hiking. How about scented candles? Notes on scented candles because I used to work in a candle shop. Look for a fermented scented candle they will have a much bolder and longer lasting scent than a freshly made one. (A fermented candle when bought in a jar looks like it's peeling away from the jar or there's an air pocket on the side of the jar.) Also, buying a febreez candle literally does throw off a really nice scent throughout the home no matter what you live in. 👌

I was told once to sprinkle cinnamon on aluminum foil on a baking sheet and heat in the oven to sell a home quicker... Smells like an Apple Pie, very homey!

I was going to suggest opening the windows a couple of times a day at least, but Kay already beat me to it.
I don't like artificial smells. They never smell "real". The one thing I like to use is Christmas-scented potpourri, which has a really nice smell. I use it in my kitchen bin. I put it into the bin before I add the bin liner.

In my experience a air filter is good to combat order. There is also wax warmers but if you leave them on 24/7 it could be a fire hazard.

What about air diffusers? Has anyone tried it? I'm thinking about buying one, but have doubts. Hi there. This thread is almost a year old. Please feel free to make a new thread if you would like to discuss topics from old threads.
