What I'm going to describe is going to sound like role-playing, but it is not. I have a quick questionnaire posted, like 4 questions for members to answer for their Profile. I'm requiring new members to post their answers to these 4 questions within 3 days of joining, in order to be validated as a member; otherwise, they will be deleted. These questions have nothing to do with personal info about members. It's about who they want to be in my forum. Sounds like role-playing, huh? My forum is imaginative so I can understand the confusion. Anyway.... Here is an example of the questions (these are not the exact questions but every similar): What name do they want to use? What Village do they want to call home? The next 2 questions are about gene makeup (Yes, I'm sure this not about role-playing) I will put the answers in their profile for them, so they don't have to worry about it. I feel it's easier that way. They can start enjoying conversations and things after completing the questionnaire. I think having members answer these 4 questions in a post is more simple, than trying to have them fill in this info in their profile; which I think will be halfway done or not at all. What are your thoughts?

I would instead use member groups. people who are just register get filtered into a specific member group with no ability to post. Then when they fill in their profiles, you can change their member group.
The reason is that it's just not sustainable if your forum ever gets busy to fill it in on your own. Putting folks into member groups is an easy two clicks, versus copy pasting all of the info you've requested.

Actually, I like this idea. It will also allow you to weed through the members who only joint to snoop around a bit, but can't be bothered to post. I use an automated PM for new members, asking them to introduce themselves before doing anything else. And it's amazing how many don't even do that. And I too delete those who can't be bothered to post even a "hello". Not right away, but after a couple of weeks or so.
Anyway... I like the way you proposed to do that. Good luck !!
Valdy
BTW, what is the link to your forum?

Oh, I see your forum is open now. It would be great to see in the boards' descriptions what you can do in each board.

The Regions of Auju boards are a little tricky. I think I'm gonna have to put something in the board titles. When I went through the forum on my phone, I noticed that "custom" fields cannot be seen in profiles. So, I added the questionnaire, for I someone is who is using their phone to register. Plus sub-boards cannot be seen either.

I wouldn't make process decisions based on the current mobile version. v6 will show custom fields on mobile, and it's currently in beta which implies a relatively eminent release (within a few months to a year).

Sorry, I can't register on your forum. I get this with several forums, and have no idea why. Whenever I have to add my email address, that's when the registration fails. This is what comes up:
Oops, there was an error! Invalid request token / possible request forgery (error 1). If you received this message in error, please go back, refresh, and try again.

This isn't a tech support thread -- if you have support questions, you should head on to the actual support board on this forum (: But logging out of all your proboards accounts and re-logging will fix this (this is a cookie mismatch error).

I know that this is not a tech support thread, Kami. I was only giving Blueraine the reason I can't register. I reported it in the tech support board.

Super fair, just thought I'd give a reminder since this is often mistaken for a tech support area. Though I should note if you've intended to join their forum, that goes beyond the scope of this board as well (this is for discussion amongst admins about their process / thoughts / ideas, as opposed to forum recruitment) -- the PB staff is generally pretty strict about this, so I'd hate for this thread to be closed if y'all discussed individual membership (:

I decided to have one form and give them two options: they can copy and complete the form or they can use it to complete their own profile. I am using groups: one new members who haven't done their profile and another for when they complete the profile. That's a long wait for the v6 come out. I'm not patient, lol! I though people were just snooping, I didn't realize they couldn't join. People are probably just snooping anyway. -Valdy, thank for reporting the inability to join. I have been thinking about having it set to where guests need to log in. I really don't know what's the best way to have the registration setting or how to have the accessibility to board set for non-members. Any thoughts?
