Shaving cream does help with reducing razor burn. It also helps if you do not press too hard with your razor of choice, and if you don't go in the opposite direction of hair growth. But yeah, I agree with Knightly Celt with growing out facial hair if you just don't want to deal with it at all.

I make sure to use a shaving cream that is good for sensitive skin and I change my razor blades quite often too.

I find it's easier with longer hair to just use an electric shaver then go over it lightly with a razor blade. Maybe plan to shave before taking a shower.
