PB Admins on other forums?

Has anyone ever had a PB Admin ever join their forum as a regular member (joining to resolve a support issue does not count)? NO need to give PB Admin names or forum names. I was just curious if anyone has a PB Admin as a regular member, since I believe they are permitted to join other forums in a non-support fashion - if they wanted to.

Personally, I don't have one on any of my forums. No biggie, as I also know they're quite busy and may not have time to join anyone's forum in a non-support fashion.

I joined someone’s forum and got a PM here asking why I joined. It made me feel mega awkward and I haven’t been back. It’s a shame because I thought it looked like a fun forum.

I agree. I'm only curious about it, is all. After all, why shouldn't they join a forum they find interesting?

That sucks, wildmaven. People shouldn't be questioning why a staff member here joined someone else's forum - what business it is of theirs? Do people really think that Staff here can't join other forums just because they're Staff here? I think not. Don't people realize that Staff on the platform's official support forum just might like to be able to participate elsewhere in a non-Staff fashion? Kitty is the Head Moderator (equivalent to a Global Moderator here) on another platform and, sadly, ran into a similar issue you had. Just sad, in my opinion. As User 180565 is taking donation said above, you're people too - so I find it disheartening that people would try to make a big deal out of it.

I can think of a few reasons why PB admins might not join other forums, as a regular member.

When I used to be an admin of a pretty old forum promotion and webmaster discussion forum, I decided to join a forum I was interested in joining and discussing various topics at. The forum admin of that forum I was interested in becoming a member at, freaked out, and demanded his accounts on the forum I was admin on, get deleted. Why? It was because I was reading up the guy's forum rules. That guy apparently thought I was going to use his own rules against him, to get his forum turned off on him, just because I was an admin on a forum he was visiting.

So yeah, people can be pretty touchy when a staff member from a major forum, decides to join up your forum without telling you in advance that they are interested in joining.

This happened once on a forum I moderated about a decade ago. Unfortunately, I can no longer find his list of amusing demands (it may have been posted on a board that's since been deleted). It was a fun time for all, though.

Sorry about that, Wildmaven. 😢 I just couldn't imagine why such an awesome PB moderator wanted to join my forum.

Incognito, a lot of famous people get by in life just by make up or fake identity to protect themselves or family and friends, hence why we have usernames. If an admin of a forum where to brag for example hey I got so and so on my forum come join it probably wouldn't really want to make me join. Unless other user was fine with them making some announcement about it.

So who really knows whose what's on what when it comes to the internet.

Staff members are people too, so why should even be a big deal if they want to join another forum? As wildmaven stated, "... it looked like a fun forum." Just because someone is a Staff member on 1 (or more) forum(s), should not be a deterrent for them to join another forum in a non-Staff fashion - nor should it be questioned if one does.

In hindsight, I probably should have done that years ago when I was still joining new forums and ran a rather large one (not on Proboards, though). Some people were quite rude on theirs if they weren't happy about not getting an award or something on mine.

It sucks that people care so much about it and can lead to them being petty. I don't see why it would matter. If another admin joined mine, I wouldn't treat them any differently, nor would I care to tell others who they are on other forums unless that's something they want to tell everyone themselves.

I'm at a point where I just don't really care if people know my name or not. I'm way more careful about what I say then I use to be and know I'm never going to be anyone popular on any community so I'm just okay with being me. If someone would like to stalk me you wouldn't have much to stalk.
