12 hours or so. I was having a severe panic attack [although I didn't recognise the physical signs of a panic attack at the time]. My heart was racing frightengly fast, I felt as if I was being choked and I was hyperventilating. My husband took me to the hospital the following morning. They put me on an ECG machine for a while and concluded my heart was fine, I'd had a panic attack. Whenever I have one now, I recognise the signs and know how to control its effects a bit.
Thankfully, I don't have them that often these days.

During the heat wave when the power went out.
Needless to say when BC Hydro showed up at midnight I just across the street from me to fix it.
As soon as that power came back on I hooked and yelled THANKS GUYS and went to bed with my fan blowing on me. ๐
I was entertained that night when I saw a momma and baby raccoon cutting across the front yard just under the window.
I said, "Hey cutey patooties, you stay away from the idiots driving like baboons with rabies, keep baby safe, just stay away from stupid ppl in general.
I was actually thinking she may have actually understood everything I said because she didn't leave until I was finished. lol
Yep, fully entertained! ๐คช

When I lie down at night, it could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 hours. It seems to be random. A while ago I thought it might have something to do with sugar keeping me up, but even when I drastically cut back on my sugar consumption, especially during the evening, doing so barely helped at all.
The main problem seems to be that I just don't get tired at night. If I lie down at 1 AM and think, "This is the right time for me to go to bed," but I don't actually feel tired, I'll just lie there for hours waiting to become tired, and then I'll finally nod off. But I have no idea how to make myself be tired at the right time. It's like my brain expects the day to be longer than 24 hours or something.

The best remedy for insomnia or if your mind is still too awake to get to sleep is reading a book in bed. In no time, your eyes will close, and you will fall asleep.
