Anyone here into Martial Arts? If so, what kind and what is your rank? I like to watch the sparring and training. I'm too stiff to take up MA now. If I was able to learn one it would be JEET KUN DO a combination of several forms. So, in the meantime I'm learning Tai Chi.
How about you? How long did it take to get to your rank?

Many years ago (well, 45 years ago - how time flies), I did jiu-jitsu.
Those were the days when I was agile enough to fly over 10+ people, and land safely on the other side. *sigh*

I took Aikido when I was in college. It’s more about how to get away from an opponent and defend yourself, rather than the more violent, “here are 100 ways to kill someone” types of martial arts. I was the only person in the class to take the optional test at the end of the year, fighting off three attackers at once, which gained me my first belt. 🙂

I'm quiet impressed! wildmaven Valdy I feel so old doing the Tai Chi! Do you remember the forms? My Pastor is 4th Kenpo, 1st Isshin Ryu, black in Tae Kwon Do, 2nd Gojin Ryu, brown in Jujitsu I wish I could do this kind of stuff.

No sorry, Stluee. I don't remember much after all this time. And I was only going for the yellow belt, and then just continued without further tests. We all found them far too stressing. I remember everyone in my group asking for aspirin. LOL
And User... awww... LOL What did you take a class of for a week?

yes I studied 4 different styles, I think Shorin-Ryu was my favorite which is what I studied the longest (5 years) and I want to get back into studying!
Shorin-Ryu - Blue Belt (was the 4th belt where I studied)
Korean Taekwondo - Yellow Belt
American Taekwondo - Orange-Black-Orange Striped Belt
Isshinryu - White Belt

I like to watch TV shows about martial arts, but only recently did I start doing it via watching YouTube (I decided to combine it with my exercising so I could learn something at the same time). I realize it’s not a good way to hone martial arts skills, but for a beginner, it helps your body get used to it initially.

I watch the women MMA fighting. No way could I do that! I wonder how some people learn more than one martial art at a time?

I got into martial arts through watching Power Rangers and Jackie Chan movies, but I never took any lessons. My brother did though. I believe he got up to an orange belt before he gave it up. I'm not the most fit person in the world so I don't think I would've done too well if I had an actual lesson.
