Hello,
Last night and today I tried several times now installing a new theme to replace the default one given to my forum, but without success. Could you please let me know what it is that I'm doing wrong? Or does it just take time for the new theme to appear? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you! -Ella

Thank you! -Ella Quick check: Installing a theme does not replace any existing themes so if you installed a new theme you'll need to go into your edit profile and switch to that theme. For guests and members (that have not already selected a theme) to see that theme by default then the new theme must be set to be the default theme or the old default theme removed and the next theme in line becomes the default.

Aaack! I think I get the concept. I'll give it a bloody go. Thank you so much for responding to my question! -Ella

Hi Chris: Your instructions worked!! The new theme shows up. Thanx so much!
Two other questions? Can I get into the area where it says, "Welcome to your new forum," and would I be allowed to change what's on there already and can I change the title of my forum? Thank you. -Ella

"Welcome to your new forum" would be a thread (aka topic) automatically posted by ProBoards to acclimate you to the resources available to you, click on it and give it a read. As the creator of the forum you have the ability to remove any thread so you can delete or edit as you see fit. The title of the forum can be easily changed by going to admin then settings and fill in a new title for the forum Changing the title of the forumChanging the Forum Title After a forum is created, generally the next thing tackled is adjusting the forum title. Just like a member can have a username and a display name, a forum has its URL and forum title. Initially they are the same, but the forum title can be easily customized or removed without it affecting the URL.
Renaming the Forum Title:To rename the title that is displayed on your forum, go to Admin > Settings > Forum Settings, Forum Tab. The very first field is the title. |
| When you type in the new title it is automatically saved. | |
Not Displaying a Forum Title: If you have logo banner or do not wish the title to be displayed on the banner, do NOT erase the Forum Title field. Instead go to Admin > Themes > Theme Manger, and click on the appropriate theme. In the Settings Tab of the theme the third option is where you control if the title is displayed or not. You would select Do Not Display a Title. Your selection will be automatically saved. Forum Settings Field - Do NOT Leave Blank | Theme Settings Tab
| | |
When you change the forum title it affects the banner area, the navigation tree and the browser tab. The forum URL remains unchanged. Original | Changed | Deleted | | | | Changing (or erasing) affects the navigation tree in the Admin Panel as well. | | |
Styling the Forum Title:Go to Admin > Themes > Advanced Styles & CSS, Visual Editor Tab, then Forum > Header > Forum Banner > Banner Text. In this area you can change the font, color and style of the forum title.

Hi Chris, I have yet another question. The "Welcome to your new Forum," that I wanted to alter was the one that has the folder icon on it, which would be after entering, "General Discussion." Would there be a way to change that name to a different name? If so, where in the Settings would that be? I've included an image. Thank you for your insight. -Ella

Thanking you once again, Chris. It worked! Have a lovely evening! -Ella
UPDATE:
Well, I thought I had it working, but the "Welcome to our forum," is still showing up on the initial page, next to, "News." Is there a way to eliminate the words completely? Thank you. -Ella

"Welcome to our new forum!" and "Welcome to your new forum!" are two different things. Since you mentioned news I will guess that you are referring to the news item also added by ProBoards which you can also delete in admin > settings > News The Help Guide is an invaluable tool you can use to acquaint yourself with the workings of your new forum. Enabling and modifying the forum's news feedTo enable the forum's news feed, visit the admin panel and enter the Settings section. Select Forum Settings from the following menu. Select the News Feed tab. Under the Settings heading, change the News Feed field to Enabled to display your news feed on the index page of your forum. Changing the Speed setting using the dropdown affects how long your news feed displays a message before moving on to the next message. The faster the speed, the shorter the amount of time the message is display. Adding text under Headlines adds a new item to your news feed. These fields accept text-styling BBCode, links, and smileys. If you want to add a new line to your news feed, simply begin typing in the next available field and a new line will be created. To reorder existing news feed items, hover your cursor over the icon, then hold down the left mouse button and drag the news feed item either up or down. Selecting the x next to an existing item in the news feed deletes it from the list. After an existing item has been deleted, it can be restored using the undo icon. Once you leave the page, a deleted news feed item can no longer be restored.Any changes are saved automatically.
