Talkforus - an alternative Debate & Discussion Board

Talkforus (https://talkforus.freeforums.net) is a spin off from another forum, loosely linked to UK's Talkradio, and is a platform where fans of the likes of Mike Graham etc., can find a place to voice their opinions (within reason*) without being reviled as every kind of 'ist'.
After being closed for some weeks due to unforeseen circumstances, we need some new members to inject fresh views into our fledgling forum, so please gives us a look and let us know what you think.

*All views are welcome, as long as usual norms regarding personal abuse, extreme language & legality are considered.



In other words, if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it on there!!

In other words, if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it on there!!

I think your forum would benefit greatly if you add a banner rather than just have text at the top of the screen. It's the first thing people see when they load your page.

I would encourage you to look around at themes you like and come up with a design that works for your forum. I see a lot of different colors and different sized texts that don't go that well together. I think you have a vision in your head, and I'd like to see that vision reflected in your forum.

It looks a little unbalanced to have the announcement being left justified and then the time and date centered. Do you agree or disagree? I don't think you need the second, black announcement box. What is its goal? Is it telling me to scroll up an inch to read the announcement that I already read?

I'm personally not fond of the very large and bold board names and descriptions. I think it would look better to keep them a standard size, unless you are intentionally using large font to cater to people who have trouble reading smaller fonts.

"Welcome to Shoutbox" is very hard to reach in its current color. Everything else in that area is black, blue, and white. Maybe it would look better being one of those colors.

I personally don't use Shoutboxes because I imagine that they take away from people actually posting, but if it works well for your members, definitely keep it there.

I think the red coloring is what feels most out of place to me. I would play around with different background colors and see what you like.

Add in some more boards to get the ball rolling, but don't start with too many either. People want to see that they can discuss a variety of topics, but you don't want your forum to look dead either.

Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on our forum.
I have only recently taken over the reins of it due to the forum owner being unable to continue due to ill health.
I have to agree with most if not all of your comments, and I would very much like to give the whole front page a revamp, including a banner, but I am very much a novice in such things and don't want to rush in guns blazing and make a mess of it.
Do you happen to know if there are any tutorials which might help?
