I'm considering adding a new area to my forum but I'm not sure if there is a lot of interest around fanfiction. Do you read fanfiction? Do you write fanfiction?

Why not ask your forum users if they'd use it?

I read them. Really like the stuff people produce to tie-up unfinished plots in cancelled TV shows. Also fill-ins and prequels/sequels for books.
Some people are really good at mimicking the creators style. I'm not one of them.

I try not to. Most times their ideas and mine don't mesh. So I feel bad reading it and then reviewing it if asked. I just don't like it.
We have a section on my forum and the members sometimes use it. Most write for themselves anyway and don't always share.
Every now and then we will do a quick contest, like a dribble, and I will read those.
But otherwise, I am not a fanfiction person and generally don't even write it.

Why not ask your forum users if they'd use it? Of course! I'm always open to hearing my members' thoughts. I was hoping to get external feedback around this idea before I did. Coming back to this thread with responses is very promising. I read them. Really like the stuff people produce to tie-up unfinished plots in cancelled TV shows. Also fill-ins and prequels/sequels for books. Some people are really good at mimicking the creators style. I'm not one of them. Yes! I like reading fanfiction to shows that were prematurely pulled from production - it's definitely a great source of closure sometimes! I really appreciate the honest feedback really! I'd be concerned if everyone were to say yes they enjoy it. I do like the idea of just giving it as an option for my members. I had friends in school I remember writing notebooks full of Harry Potter fanfics so that's really what triggered the idea. Thank you everyone!

I know you've already gotten an answer to your question, but I read fanfiction from time to time. The best part about it is as already pointed out, it can tie up loose ends that TV shows leave when they're cancelled.
I don't have faith enough in my own writing to post it publicly, but I enjoy reading what is on fanfiction.net and sometimes Wattpad.

It's reassuring to hear that others like to read fanfiction as well, so thanks!

I never have. I wonder if I should. What is your favorite show or movie? I bet there is fanfiction out there based on it.

I find that a lot of fanfiction involves getting two characters romantically involved who were not involved on the show or in the books, which doesn't interest me AT ALL.
