Where in the USA would you move? The country is 9,629,091 square kilometers (3,717,813 square miles) with any sort of weather condition you could hope to find. From a rainforest to deserts and everything in between, with canyons and mountains and flat plains, small rural towns to thriving mega cities, the USA is a vast country. For example, this is how big the US is compared to Italy (not counting Hawaii and Alaska). View AttachmentHere's how big just Alaska is compared to the continental US: View AttachmentFor me to drive from my house in California, to my sister's house in Texas, it is over 1,400 miles and would take me 2-3 days depending on how many hours I wanted to be behind the wheel. So, where in the US is your dream location? I would love to live in the Pacific Northwest or Hawaii. I've half-joked for years that I want to move to the Scottish Highlands and raise cows on a small farm. My step-dad said I should do it, for which my mom chastised him because I'm an only child and she doesn't want me to leave lol. My partner doesn't mind one way or the other, as long as he has internet and doesn't have to do farm work. I doubt it will ever happen, though! Have you ever worked on a farm? Maybe you can get a job working on one near where you live before you take the plunge. If you find it's to your liking, then do it. Life is too short. I regret not following my dreams and wouldn't wish that regret on anyone. I don't know why but I always forget Hawaii is part of the states. I had a old high school budy that grew up in Maui iirc that resides on Florida now.

When I was very young, I thought Hawaii and Alaska were next to each other, because that’s how all of the US maps showed them. Stupid education system.

If you look at a good map of Scotland, the Shetland Islands are always in a box off to the right & often in a different scale. The Shetlands look much bigger. I've seen online maps of the UK where they haven't even ghosted Southern Ireland in. So Northern Ireland looks like an island on it's own. Anyway, on topic. I've lived as a foreigner in a few countries; Holland, Germany, Gambia & India (>6 months each). I'm Irish and have lived in England for >30 years but that doesn't really count. Quite fancy New Zealand N. Island or Canada (more Vancouver than Toronto). I do like the Scandinavian people in it's broadest sense, so inc. Finland, Iceland even Greenland etc. It's just too cold and expensive for me. These days it's not difficult to find English speakers anywhere in the world. Lucky for me 'cos apart from programming my language skills consist of pointing and charades. Oh, and elli, they don't speak English in the Highlands, at least not as you would know or understand it.

To be fair I put a huge amount of blame on my dyslexia like why is their two Ds in Wednesday.

I regret not following my dreams and wouldn't wish that regret on anyone. Oh, for sure. Until maybe ten years ago, my family owned a small ranch that mainly grew alfalfa. (Grandma sold it.) I'd help my cousins with chores along the lines of feeding/watering the cows and horses. Nothing too difficult, but I did enjoy caring for the animals. Only downside is how stinky they are. :) Oh, and elli, they don't speak English in the Highlands, at least not as you would know or understand it. :) Ahaha, this is true. I've known those thick accents. I'd imagine it's something that a person could get used to, though.

wildmaven, I love looking at side references like that. The first time someone showed me just how big Africa really was, I was impressed.

The Czech republic. My great grandmother and her past generations hailed from Hlohovec. I've spent the last two years teaching myself Slovak, so it would be nice to walk the land of my foremothers, living as closely to authentic to them as I can, given the times.

I think i am living the question because i am from the England but i moved to Poland 13 years ago to live. I still feel like a foreigner even now as the language is very difficult to learn and each country has there own ways and customs.
I guess if i was to choose another country it would be the US as i guess i already know the language and there is plenty of lovely places to visit throughout the US. I have only been to Miami, so i still have it all to see.

Outside of the notorious war zones or seriously crime ridden / corrupt countries, there's not a lot of places I wouldn't live as a foreigner. I would love an opportunity to live anywhere from Argentina to Tanzania, to Spain or Lithiania or Thailand, Malaysia, wherever! Realistically, I actually stand a chance at either Germany (Hamburg) or Australia (Melbourne or Brisbane) since my company just acquired some other companies in those cities. If I could live in any country in the world though, I suppose my very top choice would be Switzerland.
