I'd love to be a foirgner in the UK, obviously life isn't too different from America and having some friends there helps. Some may argue that it's loads different which some stuff obviously is but I believe I could make it.

Japan. I donโt think Iโll ever know the language well enough to live there but Iโd love to go back as a tourist. Iโve been before and loved being there.

I grew up in Australia so I would imagine it would be there or Germany as I served there in Dortmund in my army days and I loved it, that's where I met my wife, courted her and then married.

Canada is the obvious choice. It's America but with better weather and better health care. I'm not a travel person or a person who likes change, so it's ideal for me. Also, I could live there without my time zone changing, which is convenient in an age where people (especially me) tend to have a large number of online friends.

I guess it depends on what you mean by being a foreigner. Visiting a country and living in a country are two very different things.
I'd love to visit Japan, but I'd never want to live there. It's a notoriously xenophobic society; foreigners are tolerated and even celebrated for their novel value, but they're never fully accepted as equals. There are places outside of the tourist districts that ban foreigners from entering the premises. People from other East Asian countries can get by much easier than people from Western countries, because they aren't immediately identifiable as an outsider at first glance. I don't think I'd feel comfortable living in a place and knowing I'll always be seen as a second-class citizen. Plus, their justice system is a joke with an astronomical conviction rate. I also couldn't participate in their culture of apologizing for everything.
Now, perhaps a Nordic country I could see myself living in. They seem to have nailed the quality of life and life-work balance. And yet, I don't have any real desire to visit those countries as a tourist. Their standard of living is pretty great, but they don't seem like exciting locations. If Japan is the exciting bad boy who gets you weak in the knees, the Nordic countries are the stable, bookish guys you ultimately end up settling down with. Life may not be as exhilarating, but that's OK because your needs are not being neglected.

I feel like it would be easy to go a little north, enjoy the cooler temperatures, and fit in without much of a culture change.

I've half-joked for years that I want to move to the Scottish Highlands and raise cows on a small farm. My step-dad said I should do it, for which my mom chastised him because I'm an only child and she doesn't want me to leave lol. My partner doesn't mind one way or the other, as long as he has internet and doesn't have to do farm work.
I doubt it will ever happen, though!

Where in the USA would you move? The country is 9,629,091 square kilometers (3,717,813 square miles) with any sort of weather condition you could hope to find. From a rainforest to deserts and everything in between, with canyons and mountains and flat plains, small rural towns to thriving mega cities, the USA is a vast country. For example, this is how big the US is compared to Italy (not counting Hawaii and Alaska). Here's how big just Alaska is compared to the continental US: For me to drive from my house in California, to my sister's house in Texas, it is over 1,400 miles and would take me 2-3 days depending on how many hours I wanted to be behind the wheel. So, where in the US is your dream location? I would love to live in the Pacific Northwest or Hawaii. Have you ever worked on a farm? Maybe you can get a job working on one near where you live before you take the plunge. If you find it's to your liking, then do it. Life is too short. I regret not following my dreams and wouldn't wish that regret on anyone.
