People say that because they don't know what else to say. "I'm sorry for your loss. I'm here for you. They're in a better place."
I usually tell people upfront that they don't have to look for the perfect thing to say to me because words don't change the situation. I thank them for their friendship, love, and support, though.

What do you say when someone says sorry for your loss? Is there something to say or is Thank you okay so say? What I usually retort with is "Thank you for your sympathy. My family and I appreciate it." This is to be courteous due to the fact that it won't bring them back.. but.. its still appreciated. |
