Portfolio Link -- Coding Help

Hello guys...
I do understand Basic HTML, but I don't know where to place this in Code or where to begin.


So, as seen above, I have added Custom Fields into the Profile of my Forum... (Main Portfolio which will have The Writer's Porfolio and Poetry Portfolio Embedded within it) and the Writer's Portfolio and Poetry Portfolio.
As seen Below, there will be a place on my Forums in which people can keep track of their own Portfolio which they can link back to the Above Sections.



(The Above Picture shows the Boards people will actually keep their Portfolios in.)




As shown above, I have a Forum Link called "Porfolio"...
I want to link the individual Portfolio of a Writer to this.

I have edited the Code in Navigation:



As shown above, I have shown "Portfolio" (From Picture 3) to be linked to "/?user/Portfolio"
At the moment as those of you that know Code can probably guess, it's not exactly a Broken Link but it just brings you back to the Main Page.

I do know how to make a Custom Page and make it look Nice, but I don't know how to allow Writers or Poets to have their own Individual Customizable Custom Link for "Portfolio".

I was going to keep trying through Trial and Error, but I have decided to come here to get some help.
I want the "Porfolio" tab to be the Writer's Page that they can keep Writing and Links to their Writings all in one Place.
If possible, I would like to be able to copy the "Portfolio" Link (Of each individual Writer) to be able to copy that link and paste it in Main Portfolio (Picture Number 1)

If someone can help me with this... First of all by helping me get a basic page setup and then maybe a link to teach me where to expand my knowledge of the Code...
I would really appreciate it...

You would do this via Admin > Members >  Custom Profile Fields

You can then show where the entered info shows, Profile, Mini-Profile or both.

Thank you for getting back to me, I think I am going to do that instead...
I was trying to get Custom Pages to work out for me but I think I'm going to use Custom Pages to show everyone how to do this.

One quick question, and I haven't gotten around to checking yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to have problems with this.
I'll check in a sec, but I'll still send this reply because I'm almost positive I am going to have a problem with this.

In the Forum Boards, as you see in my 2nd Picture, I have the "Main Portfolio" Board, "Writer's Portfolio" Board and "Poetry Portfolio" Board...

I want to make these boards so that when a user creates the board, only that user and/or staff can edit or add to it. I might get a thumbs up Plugin if people want to rate the board, but since it's a Portfolio, I only want the writer to have access to it (Other people can view but not write or edit)

Is this possible, would I need a Plugin?

I don't think this is commonly done...

I did double check to see if it was possible, I am now looking in Plugins to see if there is a way to do it...
If not I'll have to enforce strict moderation, but I can do it, if you know of a way, I look forward to hearing back from you.

Users cannot create boards. Users can only create threads within a board; I just wanted to clarify that so we're on the same page regarding terminology.

In short, what you're attempting to do isn't completely possible. Users are able to link directly to their portfolio threads via a custom field, but you cannot create a direct link in the menu to their specific thread because that information would only be available on pages where the mini profile is present to pull the thread ID (in other words, inside the post list only).

You also cannot prevent members from replying if you want to preserve the OP's ability to respond to their own threads while still allowing the thread to be visible to other users + allowing staff to reply, that will need to be done strictly through moderation.

You could try the Member Lock plugin, so the OP of the thread can "lock" it themselves. However, like all plugins, this will not work on mobile (which will change when V6 launches - but there's no ETA on that yet). Bear in mind that a Moderator Lock (a thread lock done by a Moderator or higher who can lock threads) will override a Member Lock - preventing the OP from "locking" or "unlocking" their thread. Just a thought.

to add to the above, plug-ins run off of javascript so even if someone isn't on the mobile version it is very easily bypassed. i would generally advise against relying on gatekeeping critical functions (like locking, even if only a fake lock) in a plug-in.
