But it's just following the pattern, right? Windows 95 = Bad Windows 98 = Good Windows ME = Bad Windows XP = Good Windows Vista = Bad Windows 7 = Good Windows 8 = Bad Windows 10 = Good Windows 11 = ... I'd add to that list and edit a bit. Win 95 Service Pack 2 wasn't that bad, USB almost/mostly worked if you sacrificed some SCSI addresses. Win 98 SE was good but the originally wasn't. Vista & ME where not just bad, they where terrible. Win 3 wasn't good but 3.1 was (if you knew what you're doing). I've still got Win 1.01 on floppy disk. Looks a lot like File Manager but works well.

I remember DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 being what we installed in the PC's we sold when my Dad and I had our computer store. When 95 came out, it was such a change, and so much easier to deal with, IMHO. For that time I have to say that 95 was decent. Not as good as XP or 7, but at least not as bad as Vista.

I also think Windows Phone 8.1 deserves an honourable mention. Despite all support being discontinued and a few foibles it still works. Fairly future proofed. And those old Nokia's where built to last. OT. I remember getting MS Office 95 pro delivered. Only 24x3½ inch disks, but a huge box of manuals. Which no one ever looked at. Usually all my old CompSci students were expected to run a dual boot system with Linux. The borders between Mac & Windows have gotten a bit blurred recently.

I remember 31 3.5 1.44mb disks for Microsoft Office Professional for Windows 3.11. I hated when I had to install it in the 30 PC order we had from the town. That was so not fun. 😆

I still love Windows XP and Win 7, but I tried dual booting with Ubuntu, then decided to install Linux stand alone. Ubuntu was ok, but then I installed Linux Mint and I've been using it exclusively for over a year now. Once you get the hang of it, it's a really good OS. Most games work and I have some excellence emulators for the older console games. All in all, Mint has a been a pretty positive experience.

There was a day when I would've told you Linux hands down. I was an avid Fedora/Fedora Core user for many years. And basically until Windows 10 came out, I always had a Linux machnine in my household. But around the time of Windows 10, WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) became a thing, and my need for a Linux machine effectively disappeared. WSL has been a crucial feature for any developers using Windows, and actually makes it a solid OS in that regard.
Now my main desktop is running Windows 11. Plenty happy with Windows, and I'd argue it's my favorite OS at this point in terms of what I choose to use to be most productive and capable. I'm on the fence with Windows 11 in general, though, as new versions of Windows go.
I do have a Mac Mini I have set up against a KVM switch, and I use it fairly frequently. And my laptop of choice is the MacBook Pro. So I have more macOS/iOS devices in my household than anything else. And I like it plenty. But
