I want just one thread per board. Help to realize my idea!

You can modify the template and change the board link to be the latest post link. The problem with this is that it will only work on the desktop version of the forum. Those on the mobile view will have the normal Board > Thread List > Thread route.

As an example:

blanketyblank.freeforums.net/

Click on the General Discussion board and it will load the thread from that board. The viewing and last post information remains seen.

For the other issue regarding the pages, has this problem only recently occurred? Has it therefore coincided with any changes made at all?

In your example link, I'm not sure if you made a mistake, but when I click on your 'Help' board under General, theres no thread. it doesn't go straight to a main thread, it still links to a threads list overview.
I'm trying to avoid seeing the thread list at all, disabling the ability to make threads, and instead just having one giant thread per board.

And the broken next page issue happens after you go Admin > Structure > Categories & Boards > Double click a main board > Settings > REDIRECT URL > Redirect it to a thread

But then, this has the behaviour I want. where clicking a category from the main view, brings you straight into a thread.

But it has the unfortunate drawbacks i've mentioned in the first post,

I've sort of rectified the page glitch error by first making a Hidden board, and putting the redirected thread in that, which somehow fixes the page glitch, but its not quite ideal because you can still navigate back to the thread list by the Navigation tree view, but its not that big of a deal. Unfortunately this too still misses the 'last post/amount vieweing' count in the main view

At this point, if I could just figure out how to retain the 'last post' and '# of viewing' information, I would be satisfied.

I know the behaviour I'm looking to achieve is pretty unorthodox for these kind of forums, but if anyone knows how to achieve what I want that would be really cool.

and you mentioned that it has a problem on mobile, well thats acceptable i guess, however I did notice under the 'experimental' tab on the admin settings that you can just disable the mobile view, can I just do that?  I dont really want people to use the forum on their phones anyway. its more of a desktop thing.

Yes, sure.  You will need to open up the Board List template:

Admin > Themes > Template Layouts > Board > Board List

Look for this small bit of code [ around line 17 ]:

<span class="link">$[board]</span>

Replace it with:

                       {if $[board.posts] > 0}

{if $[board.last_thread]}

                       <span class="link"><a class="js-board__title board-link board-$[board.id]" href="$[board.last_thread.recent_link.href]">$[board.name]</a></span>

{/if}

                       {else}

                       <span class="link">$[board]</span>

                       {/if}

That should do it.

You noted that the Help board still loaded the thread view.  This is only until a thread has been made in the board, then it will pick up that thread link and load the thread instead.

You will also want to restrict new topics being made.  You can do this in the board settings:

Admin > Structure > Categories and Boards

Double click on a board to avail it's settings panel.  Click on Permissions, and for the option to start new topics, set to staff only.

What are my options for creating the ability for forum users to embed mp3 files or audio files INTO posts, something that doesnt require a bunch of code or programming knowledge, something easy for members of the forum to use. is the easiest way to just upload it on youtube first and embed that?

2. is there some way to set the default size for Youtube automatic embed feature? its a bit too big by default.

To youtube, or one of the other supported video sites.  Clicking on the on the posting page will display a list of supported sites.

EDIT: it seems to have started working on my site again, though, on your example site its still broken. It seems to come and go.
