So I am in a quandary. My air conditioner died. It Will take all of my saved resources to replace it. I am hesitant to do that because
1. One never knows what is ahead in life and should have a cushion to fall back on 2. Are we at a time in the "scheme of things" that we might not even be in our homes or some other disaster may occur anyway and AC becomes moot.
3. Summer ends in 3 months anyway.
4. Are we going to be "here" much longer? but Heck, haven't we been waiting for the call out long enough that it might be a lot longer yet? It was first the year 2000, then 2102, then every year thereafter.
I'm in Idaho, but in a warm section, so we do see triple digit temperatures, but I could sleep in the basement.
Thoughts?

Is this a AC unit for the whole house, or one of those window or stand alone single room AC units? If the need is to replace the AC Unit for the house, I can see why it would cost a bit to replace.
If you would rather, I suggest getting 2-3 mobile ac units that you can vent the hot air out a window, or one that you place inside the window frame.
The stand alone mobile ones, you can roll around and cool individual rooms you want the cool air in, so you aren't restricted to one room with a window unit.

thank you. I will look at the roll around ones. I don't have an available window to put one in. My "windows" are sliding glass doors, even in the bedroom. So a window thing doesn't work. I had a whole house one, that died.

The stand alone mobile ones, you can roll around and cool individual rooms you want the cool air in, so you aren't restricted to one room with a window unit. Most of those require running a vent tube outside. If there isn’t an available window, those probably won’t work.

My wife's family lives in Puerto Rico and when we stay at her dad's house during visits, no AC...and Puerto Rico gets hot. And humid. But with the right amount of fans, it really isn't that godawful and you almost get used to it. Her family makes it daily like that, as do millions of others...but nahhhh, I'd be spending some $$$ on repairs lol cause frfr it sucks pretty bad idk how they do it honestly my god sweating while trying to sleep at night is one of the worst things

Cheap, temporary solution is those blue freezer blocks used for cool boxes, the sodium polyacrylate ones not pure distilled water. Stick 3 or 4 in front of a desk fan.
Not at all energy efficient or green but it works.
