NeoGeo Joysticks Changing from 4 Way to 8 Way

I have a NeoGeo mini Upright and want to install a ServoStick joystick.  Unfortunately there is not enough room either side of the joystick to install the motor.

I may have to do it manually with a wire or something like that from outside the cabinet.

It would be a great way of changing from 4 way to 8 way and back again.

Anyone found a solutiojn to this?
