How To Add Threads To Custom Pages?

I have created a custom page and would like to show a thread with its most recent posts. I understand there is a widget that does this "Recent Threads/Posts" but it does not have every thing I need. Is there a way to pull in threads on Custom pages using variables or is there a way that threads can be pulled in with a plugin?
