Christmas and Halloween In August

The heat is bearing down on some of us BC is if we're in a pot of hot water, at least now I know how a lobster feels.

In Costco, they have one isle of Christmas trees and wreaths, and another isle of Halloween stuff, I'm waiting for some Halloween decorations to come out so I can decorate the trees. lol

I haven't seen none in Walmart or anywhere for that matter, just Costco. 

Have any of the stores started with Christmas and Halloween stuff yet?

Yes. All driven by commercialism.
In London, Harrods always start the celebrations in July when they open their Christmas shop (complete with carols and Christmas songs)…an entire floor.  Anyone who has ever visited Harrods knows how big those floors are. But, July is probably a late start compare to some others, in all that ridiculousness.

Oh my word, it's crazy and I can't seem to get used to it after all these years, go figure. lol

I was in Hallmark and Just Cozy yesterday and noticed their Christmas and Halloween stuff. I wonder if it'll ever stop. Especially at this time when everyone is struggling.

Not just Harrods 🎶Sossity🎶, the local branch of John Lewis here has a permanent Christmas display. Not as spectacular but it does grow as December approaches.

The Tesco Express down the road from me normally starts putting Easter Eggs on the shelves on 2nd January. They cut the price of Christmas stuff the same day.

I, personally, demand year-round sales for every holiday. I don't want to live in a world where I can't get my Christmas tree purchase discounted by 15% in February.

Halloween officially begins in September. No, I won't elaborate. Do not @ me.

I love when Costco puts out the Halloween stuff... It's been out for about three weeks at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx, as well.

My local Walmart had a Halloween Reese's display out in the first week of August, with a shipment of Christmas decorations sitting in the backroom. I haven't noticed it elsewhere, but I also haven't been paying much attention.

From a retail perspective, I get it. If something sold well last season, you want to sell even more of it this season. You have limited shelf space, so you expect to have it on the shelves longer instead. You know it won't sell at all after the holiday, so you have to put it out even sooner. Nothing is being encroached upon, is it? After the back-to-school rush, there's no major holiday until Halloween (maybe Labor Day, which is just July 4th overstock) and Thanksgiving is a mostly grocery holiday with decorations that are mostly generic fall/harvest-themed and can be sold extra-early alongside Halloween decorations, freeing November up for Christmas merchandise. (Obvs going by a US calendar.) I can't fault retail for being an efficient and profitable version of itself.

How long should we tolerate acknowledgement of a celebration before it begins? No more than 30 days? Honest questions. What's the tolerable cutoff?

Slightly off topic. Round here there's always a few student houses/rooms that leave Christmas style fairy lights around their windows all year round. During lockdown it increased and included lots of family homes, with added tinsel. I don't do Xmas but it's quite nice to see.

There's a small independant hardware shop that always stock and display lights and spare bulbs.

I like those fairy lights they're very cute but don't seem to feel the want or need to have them in my living area.

I passed a house the other day with wreaths on the windows and pumpkins on their doorstep. However, I think the wreaths have been there since last year.

It's getting colder here. We dropped down to 42F last night, and it's in the 50's, but that's typical here in the mid west.

I'm ALL for Halloween. To me, its year round. lol. I don't mind Christmas. But eh. Our walmart is going under a remodel, so not much out right now except for just halloween. They don't do Christmas stuff normally until mid-October.

Hi Darkmage4, sorry for getting back to you so late.

I've been in Walmart and Costco lately and Walmart has Costco beat now when it comes to both Halloween and Christmas decorations. I don't know why they don't just put up a Christmas tree with Halloween decorations on it. 

I think that's when they will go all full blown on the Christmas and Halloween stuff here.

All in all, I hope this year there will be enough turkeys and stuffing to go around to everyone who wants one.
