So we got the RDOF build out here. The government contracted one where companies get money to build out in the rural area.
They finally finished a few weeks ago, and a Spectrum truck came our yesterday per our request of course. We got the highest tier. 1Gbps fiber.
Lady on the phone said my upload speed would be 35. Nope.
We get around 850-980Mbps download, and 550-600Mbps upload. I'm by far ecstatic about that, so now I cam efficiently run my online business better than before.
But, I went from 25Mbps (at best 0.90Mbps) download and 10Mbps upload (at best 0.20Mbps) to this!
Games, Files, etc download in mere seconds and no longer days!
I edit videos for people, and the turn around for that was longer due to the uploading and downloading of these videos from clients. Now its almost nearly instant to get and give these files.
It's by far exceeded my expectations. As in town speeds they don't have these speeds. They're all still on the coax cable. We have this yellow cord inside, that apparently has glass in it? At least that's what the guy says. But nothing on it is coax.
It has that 6 on the wifi symbol. It's kinda crazy and feels so surreal yet.
I was so excited finally getting net out here on the farm, that I was running on barely any sleep, and adrenaline was keeping me awake. I finally fell asleep at 5am. But woke up at 8. Lol.
What speeds do you have?

Ours is pretty fast for satellite, but the system goes down a lot. We are currently waiting for the new service in town to get their fiber optic cables in our area, maybe early next year. Here's mine right now:

Here's mine right now: That's not bad for satellite honestly. When we had Hughs net or whatever it was. It would be slower than dial up after half an hour. Then we got fixed wireless internet, and it did its job, wasn't stable, and wasn't the best, but it was something, and I'm grateful for it. But nothing in my life of using the internet, have I ever had this fast speeds. I was able to download games on 3 consoles. And steam game downloads, at the same time Netflix was playing lag free, and I was on twitch doing what I do, with no issues. I tested this to an extreme to see what it could handle. Beyond impressed. If I chose the proper server, it would actually be a little bit higher than that.

I remember growing up on AOL and we were lucky to have internet at all. Back THEN there was not much to do besides emails anyway.
When I became active on GT as a teen we had some basic package that was slow, but it did work. I remember youtube videos taking up to a minute to pre-buffer a 1080p video on my desktop, and while it buffered the internet would slow down for everyone else. We didn't have cable but we had bunny ears in the attic and watched whatever channels we could get.
Late 2014 i began college but the amount of youtube and downloads was demanding so I went to the library to downlaod and my dad realized it was time to upgrade. I think he went with time warner? IDK if they are spectrum now but it's what I remember at the time. He got a modest speed bump that could handle 4k video well.
I remember now with my own family we did the cheapest package comcast has and still got like 300mps download and 15 up. Just before the pandemic I decided to upgrade to gigabit and the feeling watching the internet suddenly "just work" was magical. Haven't looked back since.
I think the feeling was similiar when I got my first retina display/4k monitor a while ago. Suddenly the internet was sharper and games looked better and I felt like I was part of an elite group lol.
That feeling doesn't stop by much anymore. But it's nice to have a moment of "wow, I caught up".

We have 2gbps coming in our area as an option I had 1gbps for a little bit but because I live in a one bedroom I'm just like why am I over paying for internet speeds I don't need? I have a steady 350mbps which I pay about $50 a month for and it's all I need.
I only see 1gbps needed for businesses and maybe larger homes otherwise you're throwing money out the window for bragging rights.

My speeds aren't anything to write home about, but the connection is very stable. I had another ISP for about a year that gave me several times these speeds but it started disconnecting for a few minutes every hour and nothing they did would fix it so I went back to this one. Can't complain though honestly. What does bother me a little is that my current ISP offers a fiber connection, but when they rolled it out, the place they apparently stopped was... next door. My neighbors can all get it but I can't and I'm slightly salty. Attachments:

That feeling doesn't stop by much anymore. But it's nice to have a moment of "wow, I caught up". Absolutely, the feeling just hasn't gone away for me. In a year or so, it might. Lol. But I think after having years of nothing to finally something, being able to have Netflix on at 4k, and being able to watch YouTube in 4k, while downloading a bunch of games, makes me feel like I'm part of that elite club. Lol. We have 2gbps coming in our area as an option I had 1gbps for a little bit but because I live in a one bedroom I'm just like why am I over paying for internet speeds I don't need? I only see 1gbps needed for businesses and maybe larger homes otherwise you're throwing money out the window for bragging rights. 350Mbps sure is a lot. But bogs down especially when you're downloading a lot of games and files. I really don't see it as bragging rights, when you practically live on the internet. Especially for what I do, even if it was just me, in a 1 bedroom apartment. I'd still pay for that Gb connection. It's like, do I really need 10TB of SSD, and 128GB ram when I barely use it? No. Not really. Is it nice to have for a just in case? Yeah, absolutely. I've maybe used 60GB at once, and use about 5TB currently. But, the speed is definitely worth it imo, especially for the price. Which is only 94 after paying 88 for the first 12 months. My speeds aren't anything to write home about, but the connection is very stable. I had another ISP for about a year that gave me several times these speeds but it started disconnecting for a few minutes every hour and nothing they did would fix it so I went back to this one. My neighbors can all get it but I can't and I'm slightly salty. Yeah, I know what you mean! Lol. With ATT, their high speed ended a block away while we were stuck with 5Mbps, and 0.40 upload, and it constantly dropped connection. I hated it. Then we got spectrum which was 60/5. For 87 dollars it wasn't to bad. That was in 2017.

Storage isn't that good of a comparison storage still works offline and with 350mbps I can still download a 1080p movie in less than 10 minutes with a reliabe source.
