What are the saddest songs you have ever heard? I've hear two that make me cry and they are both oldies-well one is actually ancient! www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJO7lJIxG10&ab_channel=TraceAdkinsVEVOand: Quoted from Harly Tutor (Utuber) ----"Iโll Be Home For Christmas was originally recorded by Bing Crosby in 1943, and it quickly became one of Americaโs most popular holiday songs. The song is written from the perspective of a soldier serving over seas during World War 2. While the melody is one that lingers in our minds, the meaning of the song is actually quite somber as the closing line reveals that being home for Christmas isnโt quite a reality just yet." www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL71eMc1blw&ab_channel=IcebridyIze

Edit:
I don't know about "ever," but they were the first two I thought of.

With my father in hospice, this is even more sad than before:
And, because I was in NY during 9/11, this one will never stop gutting me:

It will always be this for me from the movie Ghost, when they played it at the end scene I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers.

There are two that come to mind. One's a little older, but I've been listening to it all my life and still love it. I'm a little biased since my parents brought me up listening to The Righteous Brothers but it's honestly one of my favorite songs.
The other is newer, but it's got some special meaning/associations for me and the lyrics also absolutely wreck me.

A couple songs I discovered recently with themes of violence, disillusionment, and regret. Not easy listens:

Isn't that a completely different song? Edit. Oh, hang on. They did cover Willie McBride but had another song called No Man's Land.

King - Lauren Aquilina
Mainly because it was a song that I used to listen to with my ex wife when we first started dating.
Angel by the Wings - Sia
This Happiness - Of Monsters and Men
It's Alright - Mother Mother
Linkin Park - One More Light
