Mini-Profile Colors Help

Please don't rip off my mini profile design

Oh! Not my intention! I just like the way the colors are laid out, that sort of thing? Sorry, I’m bad at explaining things, but I wasn’t going to just use it as is. I just like the way it looked and wanted to use it as a base to make my own versions since I’m not sure how to build one from scratch.

Using someone else's design as a base is not great, no; it's effectively theft. I really wish you had just asked me first, and we could have discussed it in private. I created this profile design from scratch, so while I don't mind if you're inspired by it, I would prefer you make your own design instead of just using mine as a template for your own. If you want to design your own, I am more than happy to help you set it up on the HTML / CSS side (there should be no javascript requirement for this -- not sure what plugin you're using).

Tbh I don’t see how that’s really any different when my end goal is basically just to have colored bars behind certain parts of the mini-profile like yours does. For me, it’s easier if I can see how the code is laid out in relation to what I’m looking at and then go “ah yes, I need this particular bit to do what I’m aiming for”.

I didn’t ask you in private because I just didn’t think about it and didn’t know it was such a big deal. It’s not like I want a carbon copy of your mp or anything, I just want to see the code and know which parts make which things happen. Yes, I’d copy it to save myself some typing & avoid typos but I’d also alter it considerably and move dookie around. If I knew it was gonna be like this, I guess I would have just asked privately. Sorry.

You're gone now, so probably no point in me replying but just in case you're lurking:

1. It isn't a "big deal". I simply expressed that it's not a great thing to do to ask how someone else's work is done without consulting them first if you can use it. I also offered to help, should you come up with a design of your own choosing. If you didn't want to copy me, that's great! I was more than happy to assist if you had a better idea of what you wanted.

2. Me saying I wish you had asked me in private doesn't constitute making a big deal out of it; you said you didn't know what the etiquette was, so I let you know. It feels weird to me for that information to turn this into a 'big deal'.

3. Copying my layout and 'moving stuff around' is still copying , let's be very clear on that. If you do that to other designers, you could find yourself subject to a TOS violation notice. (Speaking from experience -- I did that myself once upon a time, much like you did without consulting the original creator and just 'taking inspiration' by copying and moving stuff around/changing values, which is still theft and the abuse team got me on it.)
