Hello all! As you may or may not know. I will be out of work here shortly. As it is mostly paid, I need to supplement with Door Dash. I am also curious as to if it is possible to make a living out of doing such a thing in case my disability takes a little bit longer to go through with the diagnosis..
Any tips tricks or advice is welcome!
I also live in the USA in a rural town, but am very close to metropolitan areas.

It depends on the cost of living by you. My boyfriend delivers for Uber Eats. They don't reimburse you for gas or pay for you to get back home after your last delivery. He gets decent tips and earns about $22 per hour. This is an average though. Some trips earn him a lot less and when people tip more, he earns more.

If you do decide to do it please don't feel entitled to thinking that tips are where the big bucks are. A lot of people don't tip and just ask to throw it on the door step. The amount of viral videos over people expecting to be tipped then throwing a fit over it is insane.

Cost of living for me is low.. my cost of living with my car is high.. but not too high. I would need to bring in around 200 per day 5 days a week. Feasible?

So, he can open the app at any time and get a ton of orders. He's mostly doing this from about 11PM until 4AM and still getting a lot of orders. When he did it during a Thursday afternoon, it was nonstop offers for orders. He had to start declining some. He gets good tips and a lot of the money comes from tips. All the tips go through the app. Every person has tipped him so far, possibly because customers can set the app to add a certain tip or percentage to every order. If we use his rate of $22 per hour and speculate that you won't get more or less, you'd have to work about 9 hours per day, not counting getting yourself home. So, sure, it's doable, but I don't know how much you want to work. When he's awake later, I can ask him some questions if you have any.

vank , I'd say most of his money comes from tips at the moment. If no one tipped ever, he might end up making half of minimum wage.
Edit:
Minimum wage here is $14.13.

1. The question is, when you start treatment, are you're going to be able to do the job? It's a lot of getting in and out of a car, climbing steps, and walking. 2. If you report being a door dasher to your auto insurance, your rates may go up. Link3. You're also considered an Independent Contractor, which has its own rabbit hole of legalities and taxes. Independent Contractor4. In most states, Independent Contractors need to have a Business License. Before starting this, you might want to discuss with your oncologist what your limitations will be during the course of treatment and afterwards. $200/day is a lot to ask and I would think that'd be a ton of runs one after the other. Check out this Thread about real door dashers and their experiences.

^ Very valid points, but I want to add information. My boyfriend doesn't need a business license to transport food or people with Uber. When he transports people with Uber, they provide the insurance. He doesn't pay for anything extra. He already has the car insurance that our state requires. You are correct about taxes.
On another note, I've been a 1099 worker since 2017 and have not needed a business license. Maybe this differs by state.
Yes, $200 per day is a high expectation unless you want to work 10 hours or so per day.

With Uber, you don't need a business license in my state. You have insurance through them at least in my state. Money can be slim Pickens or good. When I did it I averaged $18 an hour. Most people tipped. Some didn't. I made quarterly tax payments because I had two 1099 jobs. Didn't need a license as a handyman either. Doing other things now. $200 a day would require a Lotta trips

I agree, it is a lot, but to answer wildmaven ' s questions. I probably won't.. My treatment will be quite rigorous. But I was hopeful.. Thankfully I do have short term disability.

My boyfriend said to tell you that you can't transport food with Uber Eats with a Tesla, but you can transport people. He so far likes transporting people more than food because a few times he got to a restaurant and had to spend time (unpaid) waiting for them to finish making the food.

Is there a stipulation on tesla's? That is odd..
