Forum: aeipathyrp.com/Hi there! I'm looking for a way of expanding the Nav Tree to show more than just the homepage, then ..., then the last and current board. I still want the category to show as ... after leaving the homepage but the rest of the sub-boards to show in their entirety. So if this is the structure: Home > Category > Board > Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Sub-Sub-BoardI want it to show: Home > ... > Board > Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Sub-Sub-BoardWhilst, at the moment, it currently shows: Home > ... > Sub-Sub-Sub-Board > Sub-Sub-Sub-Sub-BoardI've tried a couple of expanding codes I found on here but none of them seem to trigger or do what I'm looking for? The best I've managed is to remove the ... but that's it... >.< I'm hoping I've explained that properly...

Unless I am missing some nuance and without an actual Sub-Sub-Sub-Sub-Board to test the code on (I can't recall seeing one that went that deep), the code posted in this topic should work since it is written to be open-ended. One thing that code does not do, however, is leave the category unexpanded. Still, you could probably achieve that with some text-overflow:ellipsis or possibly some generated pseudo-elements.

Hi Chris, I actually have this one on the site at the moment but it doesn't appear to be doing anything? Unless I have another code interfering? For testing purposes... this thread is buried pretty deep... So the nav tree should show... Aeipathy (Home) > Hellas (Category) > Athenia > Athenian Crescent > The Capital > Inner Circle > Royal Palati > Gardens and Stables > Let Them Be Children (Thread)But I've just got the last two. The category ellipsis issue I think I've worked out by just altering the category Names to ... whilst keeping the Display Name the full thing. But the expanded tree bit is still a question mark...?

That ellipsis anchor is missing the structured data attribute itemprop="item", and the expansion code specifically keys in on that in order to distinguish between that and a true breadcrumb anchor ( itemprop="url"). Missing microdata attributes: (itemprop, itemscope, itemtype...)Properly marked up with microdata attributes
I cannot find any code that may be responsible for removing it, so can you go into more detail on how and what was altered to work out the ellipsis issue? Edit:
Upon further review, I recognize that markup as being from the older data-vocabulary.org system which was then upgraded to schema.org system [1], requiring an upgrade to the header/footer code [2]. I am now wondering... - if the change to the category name broke the tree[3]
- if there is more than 250 boards total since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum
Okay, I've got this figured out now. Last week we applied a few changes in regards to categories and boards. One of these was imposing a limit on how many could be created total due to forums with several hundreds causing a lot of unexpected problems when the data for all several hundred had to be loaded at once. The change that I didn't know about was that this also affected the navigation tree. A maximum of 250 items will show, and any beyond that will prevent the menu from showing. Since this is an element that loads on every single page on the user end of the forum it was causing similar problems. You're currently at 342 boards, so the menu will no longer show when hovering over the forum's title in the navigation tree.
- if the update was never rolled out to the enterprise forums.net (??) since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum
- if the current theme was not updated (I recall certain upgrades in the past being contingent on saving the theme in order to receive the update[4]) since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum

Hi Chris , Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out and link it etc. It was super helpful. I think I understood most of it XD - forgive me, I'm just a hodge-podge self-taught proboards coder over here, so I'm always learning... To answer the concerns: That ellipsis anchor is missing the structured data attribute itemprop="item", and the expansion code specifically keys in on that in order to distinguish between that and a true breadcrumb anchor (itemprop="url"). -- Literally don't know what this means, I'm sorry. Well, correction - I think I understand it but have no idea how to access this coding or how to edit it to be correct. I have no idea what I may have done or not updated to have this piece of code missing >.< I cannot find any code that may be responsible for removing it, so can you go into more detail on how and what was altered to work out the ellipsis issue? -- All I did to "fix" the category issue was go into the Categories and Boards listings and literally just changed the category "Name" to "..." whilst keeping the "Display Name" what it actually is. The Display Name therefore shows up on the main site and the "..." name appears in the Nav Tree. if the change to the category name broke the tree -- The issue with the extra boards not showing was a problem before I changed the category name. I also only altered the "Hellas" Category to test this theory, not the others, and the issue persists everywhere. So, based on rudimentary testing-theory I don't think this is the issue? if there is more than 250 boards total since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum -- I haven't gone in and counted but I'm 100% certain we are over the 250 board count. The section you've quoted above says that this stops the dropdowns appearing in the nav tree. This is true on my site but is not a problem. I don't need the boards to have drop downs/child elements so long as the chain is fully visible. Based on the scale of the forum, I cannot cut down on boards so if this is a dealbreaker I may have to come up with something else... >.< if the update was never rolled out to the enterprise forums.net (??) since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum -- It doesn't sound like there's a lot I can do about this, if this is the case? Or do I need to contact a member of the forums.net team? if the current theme was not updated (I recall certain upgrades in the past being contingent on saving the theme in order to receive the update) since the menuStructure data used by the code, to create proper links, is not served with the page metadata on that forum -- I do not recall a time where I was asked to save a Theme or update anything like this, so this is entirely possible? What would be my next steps for looking for a solution to this problem?

That answers that question then, Proboards does not give a dropdown (or the data that comes with it) to forums that have boards in excess of 250 The code you currently have installed requires that dropdown data (the menuStructure in Proboards' dataHash) in order to rebuild the missing tree segments with proper linking. Here is a simplified code that does not try to do any data lookups or link rebuilding and merely expands the tree. The code also hides the "Aeipathy" part of the tree since there is already an absolutely positioned "Home" preceding the tree and the code also adds an extra margin to push the tree from under that absolutely positioned "Home."

Hi ChrisApologies for taking so long to come back to you on this - was distracted with other projects. This is phenomenal and works great! I can totally rig this to look right. Thanks again!
