I set the forum width to 50% and the header container to match at 50%

This theme is LAND by Smangii by the way. I wanted to modify it a bit.

If this had happened ten years ago I coulda fixed it myself, but I've let the coding muscle atrophy so I'm about as lost as someone just starting.

Yeah, please link to your forum -- we can't diagnose without seeing the issue, especially for a theme that's customised. We'll do our best to assist once we see the theme in action (make sure it's set as default so guests can see).

As a bit of a heads up as well: sometimes themes get messed up as the years pass, due to small maintenances and updates. Smangii unfortunately sort of... disappeared from his usual online spaces several years ago, so all of his themes are currently unsupported. We can do our best to help out, but just to levelset expectations, we aren't always equipped (with time, or sometimes the knowledge) to do so especially if the theme creator was particularly creative with their methods, which Smangii tended to be.
