Not really a request more like HELP (Design/Coding)

Not sure if this is the correct place to be putting it but I have a design question. Well I have a few design/coding questions...

1. One of my most simple questions is how to create a boarder around my words to make it look more like its on a paper rather then just a boarder around the words. I know I saw a post a while back (Like 2-3 years ago) about how to do it but I have not been successful in finding anything like it. And I know there is a guide on the parameters you can use within the code but wondering if there is a more explained guide that will tell you the format it needs to be in and/or can be in. Kind of like how in font color you can have RGB or #000000.

2. Another simple question...how do you put coding into a line of text. Like have a line of text like this then (code) text then more of the line like this.

3. Is there image mapping on here? Not even sure that's the correct term for it. Basically I'm trying to have an image that depending on where you click on it it will send you to a different thread, reply or page. I know its possible on Fandom Wiki but one idk what kind of coding they use there and two idk if its comparable to this coding. Special page or not I just need help.

4. Next question is close to the 3rd one but mainly I wanna know how to make a clickable image to go to another post, reply or page.

5. Kind of similar to the 3rd question. Is it possible and if it is how to click on an image and it show content similar to the Spoiler but with an image.

6. I have too many questions...I was wondering how to make a clickable table of contents. So if you click on a chapter title or Subtitles it would scroll you to the place in your thread that matches. So clicking on chapter 1 would send you to chapter 1. I've done something like it with HTML.

7. Also was wondering, if its even possible, how to change the text for a spoiler click link. So normally it would look like this:

SPOILER: Click to show

Hi

But have it say something like "Click" or whatever my heart desires.

I'm no god at coding. I learn through example so examples for all would be great. Or even links to examples would also be great. Sorry for the multiple questions in one post. I'm more then happy to make separate posts for each if need be. Most of these questions have popped up over the past 3 days and never really asked because I was afraid of being called stupid or something.

Edit: Replace LINK_TO_URL with an actual URL destination. Replace LINK_TO_IMAGE with an actual link to a hosted image, making sure it doesn't violate the image host's ToS. If the image is going to be used on your forum, it is probably best to download the image and host it in your forum's theme's custom images section.

Thank you and could I use the image and place a link to where I got it from as a "credit to" kind of feature? Because I'm using Imgur but where I get the pictures from are totally different website that I plan on giving the credits to. I'm going to be using a ton of images so I don't think adding them to my image section is a good idea.

eagleeye401 - It really doesn't matter what you do execution-wise. If you want to hyperlink text to credit where the original creator/source is, then do that (in fact, that's probably the best practice). With regards to Kitty's comment on not breaking the image host's TOS, while that is true, unless you are posting objectionable content the main concern would be using the host as a content delivery network (CDN). For imgur in particular, as long as these images are used in posts or static custom pages and aren't used as design images (your forum banner, forum background, etc) or used for images that are repeating constantly (like user avatars/icons, signature images) then they're OK and imgur won't have an issue. If these images are being used as part of your design or as recurring imagery, then imgur is not a suitable host and that's where hosting to your image section in the theme would be a good idea.

For your other questions:

1. If you're familiar with CSS, you're able to use a lot of CSS (though not all) within your BB Code as inline styling. PB made a shift in v5 to make their BB Code formatting more closely emulate HTML. For the most part, the difference is that BB code uses square brackets [ ] while HTML uses pointed brackets < >. To create a border around your posts, would be something like:

[div style="border: 1px solid #FF00FF; padding: 5px;]Text here[/div]
Which in practice would look like:

Text here

There are only a handful of things you can't do with PB's BB Code, the most important being you cannot designate class names.

If you are interested, there is also a plugin that expands the styling functionality of BB Code [here]. I personally don't use this plugin, and there has been a history of the plugin not being 100% reliable, but it's mostly stable and it's a very popular plugin for folks who love to make custom stylised posts.

2. You can use either the CODE tag or the NOUBBC tag, demonstrated below:

code tag
[b]noubbc tag prevents the style bbcode from executing[/b] but does not visually change the text


3. Not within posts; while there's a lot of inline styling you can use an image map goes beyond that. I would recommend either using this in your headers/footers or custom pages with proper HTML, or if you really need it in-post you can request a plugin and see it's possible that way in the Plugin Request Board.

4. Already answered.

5. Not natively in the software, but the Spoiler Tags plugin provides that functionality: www.proboards.com/library/plugins/item/176

6. You'd do it the same as HTML using anchor tags, just swap out  < > for [ ] in your coding.
