Could you live totally off the grid? I'm reading a book series about an encleve in Canada that is totally off the grid and the people living there are running from something. (cool series). Dorm style living, no TV. no inter-net, no phones, no roads, no anything. Easpecially nothing that could be traced.

I have so many hobbies that don't require modern conveniences, I love being surrounded by nature, I can cook/bake, I know how to sew, shoot a gun, make fire, etc. so I can fend for myself. Sounds like heaven, actually. The internet is disposable as far as I'm concerned.

If I didn't run and forum, and if my job weren't online, then maybe. I rely on the internet for ProBoards and my job. However, if I wouldn't mind not having social media access ever again. I'd miss texting a few people, but if my off-grid tiny house were on wheels, I suppose I could visit people in person. You did mention there being no roads though. So, goodbye to everyone in my entire life with no way to reach them? No.
My primary hobbies outside of the internet involve writing by hand, talking to my significant other, and hanging out with my tortoise. If I had no forum or job, and didn't mind having zero communication with any of my friends ever again, then sure.

There has to be access in case of a huge emergency.

I don't generally dig too deep into the books that I'm reviewing, but I do know that the area of the wilderness they are occupying is most likely one that the Canadian authorities are going to ignore. Plus there is a huge billionaire on their side.

It wouldn't bother me living in the wild as I have a bit of a wild nature in me plus I love woods and the countryside.

I could live, but it wouldn't be enjoyable for me. I'd have to make a lot of sudden and drastic changes to the way I live my life. I have a house in another state that's effectively off the grid, and it's nice for getaways, but only because I know it's not permanent.
