The amounts allowed to be gifted depends on where you are. For example, here in the United States, if you gift a single person $17,000 or more, YOU have to pay taxes on it, not the recipient.

In addition, the amount allowed to be put on a gift card depends on the credit card company or the store for which the gift card is aimed. To add more confusion, some stores won't let you put on more than a certain amount, even if the gift card company allows more.

There are so many variables, so you need to ask at the institution where you're buying the card.

I grew up in Las Vegas, so yeah I've played Blackjack. I'd much rather be outside watching birds.
