Anybody has a clue on how to disable the quote feature in posts?

Hi You can not disable it entirely. But on the desktop version - at least - you can hide the button. If you open up the Post List template: admin > themes > layout templates > thread > post listLook for the $[post.quote_button] tag ( around line 21 ) and remove it. That will remove the quote button on the posts. Bare in mind, however, that the quote button can not be removed from the mobile version of the forum, and members can still manually enter quotes in to their posts. Craig

Hi Craig,
Thanks for helping I couldn't reply earlier, because my password seemed to be incorrect. I however found the solution immediately after asking the question.
As you mentioned, the post list was the one who did the trick. For others who are trying to do the same thing, I'll post the solution underneath.
It's this piece of code I've omitted:
</div> <div class="controls"> $[post.quote_button]
$[post.edit_button] $[post.likes.button] $[post.select_options] </div>
I'll repeat what Craig already said : admin > themes > layout templates > thread > post list
I omitted the code : $[post.quote_button] And voilà, quote buttons are gone.
insert code here {foreach $[post]} <tr id="$[post.content_id]" class="$[post.content_class]{if $[post.even]} even{/if}{if $[viewing_recent_posts]} recent{/if}"> <td class="$[post.unblocked_class]"> <table role="grid"> <tr> <td class="left-panel" rowspan="2"> $[post.created_by.miniprofile] </td> <td class="content"> <article> <div class="content-head ui-helper-clearfix"> <div class="info"> $[post.thread] <span class="date">$[post.created_on]</span> {if $[post.how_posted]} <span class="post-method">via $[post.how_posted]</span> {/if} $[post.likes] </div> <div class="controls">
$[post.quote_button] < Delete this
$[post.edit_button] $[post.likes.button] $[post.select_options] </div> </div> <h3 class="title aria-hidden">Post by $[post.created_by.name] on $[post.created_on]</h3> <div class="message">$[post.message]</div> </article> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="foot"> {if $[post.edited]} <div class="edited_by"><span class="italic">Last Edit:</span> $[post.edited.date] by $[post.edited.by_user]{if $[post.edited.reason]}: $[post.edited.reason]{/if}</div> {/if} {if $[post.created_by.signature]} <div class="signature">$[post.created_by.signature]</div> {/if} </td> </tr> </table> </td> {if $[post.is_blocked]} <td class="$[post.blocked_class] content center"> <div class="message note pad-bottom">This post is hidden</div> $[post.display_blocked_post_button] </td> {/if} </tr> {/foreach} {if !$[post]} <tr class="last"><td class="last center" colspan="1">No posts were found.</td></tr> {/if}
You might ask me why I want to disable the Quote button? A lot of people use this button to quote the text in a post above all the time. This is unnecessary, because this text can be read in the above post. It's sometimes used so much, that the thread is becoming very messy and too long. Quoting someone's text is only interesting in some cases.

Dr.RedAnt Ok, but what if someone hasn't been in the thread in a while and wants to respond to something a page (or more) back? Not being able to quote is going to be confusing because the reply will be out of context. Also, sometimes you start to respond to the post right before, but then others get in between so it may now be 5 posts before. Food for thought, is all. And, yes, there are ways to work around it. But they involve copying/pasting the applicable post to a reply and then manually specifying the person they're responding to. Seems like a pain, and I would probably just not post (if it were me).

Hello Moonbeam,
Indeed, I understand what you want to say. But is there a middle ground? Probably the one you cite.
I agree that it takes some work to quote a text without the easy quoting system. I've been a moderator on American, English, Dutch and Belgian forums, and I must say that the quote behavior often went over the top. If they really want to quote something, maybe they should put some effort into it, instead of pressing a button, which is the easiest way. It's probably standard behavior for a lot of people to use this button without thinking about it. It's also quite tedious to have to read the same quote several times until you know it by heart. And, it also means that more data is used than is actually needed.
That being said, I wish everyone a happy holiday season.
