Hi, I have a tech question, but it has nothing to do with proboards. I hope its ok to put that here, I am looking or some online file storage, in the TB range. 1- 3, but something that is also reasonably priced. I was wondering if anyone knows of any. I have done internet searches, but there is so much it makes my head spin. I also don't want to use google or microsoft.
I am trying to avoid the "fly by night companies", and looking for those companies who have been around for a few years, and won't disappear over night.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you looking to back up data that you already have copies of somewhere else? My personal, and potentially controversial opinion is that I wouldn't trust any entity with having access to all my files regardless of what they claim to do or not do with my data. One of my friends keeps his backups on external drives that are stored at a safe deposit box at the bank. I haven't gone that route. I do have an external hard drive with backup copies of everything important and it's in another location other than my primary hard drive.
I guess the question is, what are your goals and plans for this file storage service?

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Its mainly for file sharing, group projects, group work.
1-If I am at home then go to location X and need to work on some files, I can do it from location X - for example the library.
2-If I am working on a group project, I can update the group work from where ever I am with the group, a different location X.
3-I can give the link to the group so they can see progress on my portion of work. And they can do the same for me.

I am trying to avoid the "fly by night companies", and looking for those companies who have been around for a few years, and won't disappear over night. I got burned on sites like that before, and one of them was even a very well known name and well established, so I don't depend on online services anymore for file storage. Instead, I use a portable hard drive that I then store in my husband's gun safe when I'm not using it. However, if you're looking for it to be accessible by groups, that won't work. You said you want to stay away from Google, but it might be your best bet if you want longevity of service and cross-platform accessibility. We use Google Docs for our local theatre, and it's easy to use and access from anywhere.
