While it can be considered a legacy programming language and may not be as widely taught or promoted as newer languages, I believe it is still used in certain industries. I'd imagine those who are proficient in COBOL are paid well for their knowledge if they use it. However, if you're looking to get into coding, I'd probably research different coding languages depending on the type of coding you want to do. Do you know what type of coding you want to learn? For example, my boyfriend went to college for game simulation and because of that, he is able to help me create custom plugins in JavaScript for my forum. However, the language you choose to learn should depend heavily on what you want to do with that knowledge.
