Ok I am still learnig but have figured a few things out. My two problems here are I can not seem to get the pic of the boys to blend in properly so it looks much smoother, and I can also not add a pettern over top of everything. It allows me to do this it just wont show up if anyone has any tips they can share with me I would be very appreciative. Thank you img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=almostdoneod2.gif

Well to blend it better, I suggest you soft erase the edges of the stock, Maybe the size should be 100px for the soft eraser.
For the pattern, go Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Pattern and there there be the pattern you created or the pre made patterns there for you to choose from.

What I would do is define your light source and then add some shadowing to your banner. What is making your image look off now is that your image has a ton of different perspectives in it and it's lacking shadows and highlights. Most people tend to go for a front on approach with images and leave the shadows towards the back. The chips are well extracted, but blend them in a little more by adding highlights and shadows to them and your background. Also, I think a couple of splayed cards wouldn't go amiss either. That could look quite cool instead of using those chips.

I found a few more images to use, careds (displaying four of a kind). When i picked the chips I fgured going with ones that were neatly stacked however I am going to play around with the card idea and possible chips that are just thrown in a pile. Thanks very much for the suggestions. Since the photo of the kids playing cards is originally in B & W do you think it would be a better colour choice to do the entire thing in shades of grey with either colour being used for cards/chips?

You could make most of it black and white and then just have colour on some of the stocks to bring them out and highlight them a bit.

Selective colouring works well for some images, but it really depends on how well you utilise it. So long as it's not too bold, then you should be okay. I still think you'd do well with some shadows and highlights though.

I have redone it please let me know if you think this works better. I have some eraser marks that need to go and that box around it I can't figure out how to get rid of. I was thinking maybe some highlight beams or something coming from the chips, and a posiible pattern for the background. This is the first one that I have spent so much time on so any critisim is welcome. Thanks again for all your previous suggestions. img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=banner23vs2.gif
