1. Is there a way to set it to auto-save while I'm working? It has developed the bad habit of crashing down on me, so it would be brill if I wouldn't loose all the hard work so often.
2. I remember reading somewhere that there was a way of saving an image so that the layers kept as they were and you could open it up later and resume your work. Could anyone please give me more details on that?
Thank you

1. I don't beleive gimp has that function i know MS Office has it but very few programs have it. 2. Generally it's a file that is unique to that program in Photo Shop it's .psd in Paint.NET it's .pni.

for GIMP I think it's .xcf if I remember rightly. And because GIMP is open source you can probably write your own auto-save or see if someone else already has made one.

1. No...sorry. Just save every few layers or after you've done something you like.
2. .psd works fine in GIMP. .xcf doesn't work, for me. idk. anyways, if you use .psd you can show the psd to someone who is using photshop or w/e.

Yes xcf. is what it tells you to save it as if you want to edit it again later.

And KMY, If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a question in your thread. When I was downloading the GTK, it was a little over 1/4 through, when the computer started acting eradiclly. I had 54 windows open of a site on internet explorer, all within the same time frame. Is this... what it's supposed to do? Though I highly doubt it, I would like to know whats going on before I try it again.

Thanks for all your answers guys, I'll save as xcf from now on every little bit of work I do. Mercenary, I don't mind To give you my answer: when I downloaded GTK it worked fine for me, but maybe it had something to do with the fact that you were running so many programs at the same time. Try downloading it and installing it at a time when you don't run too many programs
