You know.. I thought that after dinner last night, it would be nice for my boyfriend and I to just hang out in the room and relax, watch some TV and get ready for bed. We ended up watching Ron White on Comedy Central, which is fine because it was late enough for them to be able to swear and not get bleeped out.
And then the frustration starts.. because every other Ad on TV is either for Girls Gone Wild or Extenze. Is America so focused on sex and things to make it better that *every* commercial after hours has to be about the two? I find it extremely disturbing that I can't sit down with my boyfriend to watch TV without feeling uncomfortable and even a little angry.
And it's not just Comedy Central that does it. We ended up watching MXC on Spike and the *same* exact thing happened. I saw ads for things I can't even talk about on GT without getting a warning.. on public television!!
Is it really too much.. too out of hand? Or am I just overreacting?

Sign of the times. Sex sells. You'll get over it in time. I doubt I'll get over it.. it's not one of those things I can just ignore, which is why I have such a problem with it. It's extremely disturbing to me =/ when I'm watching TV, I don't want every other commercial to be the same ad for GGW. It's sickening that that's what America has come to.

I'm not necessarily offended by them but they are very annoying. It would be one thing if it were one 30 second ad but they're more like infomercials and they are on shown on every break. They get old, quick.

I flick through music channels occasionally, and they have the text in to meet hot girls etc. advert. My and my friend were thinking of constructing a letter explaining why their advert isn't appealing. Most notably use of ACNE ridden girls plastered in make-up who were terrible at acting and "looking natural". Then, the voice over was obviously someone from London trying to put on an Australian accent. Only thing that stopped us emailing them was that they had no email contact address. Fun times. But anyway, I don't object the adverts. It's my fault for watching TMF at 4am...

UK is the same to some degree. Once the watershed hits, its all on tv. Personally, im not too bothered about it. Its just more adverts to me. Really, theres not much you can do, except turn the channel over.

Sign of the times. Sex sells. ^^qft. This is probably your best answer. People see something dealing with sex, they'll jump on it like my cat with a bird. That's America. Like it or not.

And the bit you missed out "sign of the times". Which is true. Sex sells many different brands, products and adult channels adverts for more viewers. Think some people need to stop being as prudish [sp] about it. And its not like these ads are on during the day. they are played when adults are watching (mostly). and adults should be adult enough to be able to cope with a advert like this.

Being of age (an adult) doesn't neccesarily mean that you can watch something like that and not be effected. I get frustrated every time a girls gone wild ad comes on. It's not even the "male enhancement" pill commercials that get me.. it's the contradictory nature of america.
A country that's got it's panties in a bunch about two men/women wanting to get married.. but girls gone wild (where girls get it on with other girls) is completely okay to not only show on TV but to own in your home.
I do turn the channel when they come on, Sticky Tickles.. but should I really have to? I understand that it's on late.. but midnight (when these ads were being shown last night) isn't that late for kids, especially when they're on Thanksgiving holiday right now.
If the ads were shown on a channel like.. say HBO or Skinamax.. that's a different story. You have to order those channels seperately and they show content like that anyway. Comedy Central does not.

It's the contradictory nature of america. I wouldn't call it contradictory...because people's opinions differ throughout the country, and despite the government promoting "good morals" (q. marks because morality can be debated on so many levels) people still don't have to agree. If you catch my drift...

If there was anything we could do about it, it'd be nice, but when Comedy Central and Spike are presented with large sums of money from GGW and Extenze, it's kinda hard to turn them away. If they want to put their dumb trashy commercials on while some of the good stuff is on, there's nothing we really can do about it. I hate watching Comedy Central at night because ALL of the commercials are just crap.

Miss Daisy makes an excellent point when she said that midnight really isn't that late for kids when they're on Thanksgiving break right now. I'm only 13 and I stayed up until four a.m. today. It's so inappropriate for those ads to even exist. 'Girls Gone Wild' is a step back for women and those male enhancement advertisements totally disgust me. I don't think that's it's just the fact that I'm 'young' because I'm quite mature for my age. Sex on television is a total sellout. It's absolutely sad that that is what has become of America. I totally respect history, especially America's history and I highly doubt our founding father's would want us watching these ads that now dominate late night television. It confuses me that people are so driven by hormones that we really need those commercials.

Whether you like it or not, the station is playing them. It depends what is more effort for you. Letting the smutty advert play on your mind, or flicking to another channel.

Count on inappropriate ads like that to make it awkward watching tv with your boyfriend... I know where you're coming from. I don't think there's that much we can do about them since they're on at a time where most kids are/should be in bed and the station are playing them. Only things I would suggest is to um, channel surf when they're advertising?
