Question about inactive boards

I am curious about something..I just spent some time checking out the links listed in member's profiles. I was disappointed to see that the majority of the sites posted there were inactive. Some hadn't been used in several years!

So I guess my question is..what is the policy on boards such as these? Are old "dead" boards eventually deleted, or are they left there indefinately? Does a staff member ever try to conact the email address listed for the main administrator to see if they still want their board?

It's just seems to me that having such a huge number of unused boards would put an unnecessary strain on the servers. Also all those "dead" boards are using up creative names that someone new might like to use on their own boards.

Old dead boards don't really take up resources, so they basically sit there. They don't hurt anything and cause no straing on the server as they are inactive, so typically, they aren't deleted.

Also, unless the owner deletes the forum & he or she asks to free up the username, it won't be available. =]

I guess there is at least one advantage to all that "cyber clutter". Looking at all those old boards has given me some possible ideas of some changes I can make on my own board! Some of those inactive boards obviously had a lot of work put in to them..it's just a shame that they are no longer in use.

Make another check box on the delete my message board page, asking if you want to give anyone permission to use your forum username.
