~Hi~
I have been wanting to make my own forum for a very long time, but just don't know anything about codes and all the technie thingies. And rather than ask umpteen thousand questions all at one time, It is my sincere hope that someone will guide me through all of this. So, first question~
If I do start my own forum, is this going to overwhelm me? Or can I just make a few adjustments for starters and learn as I go?
2nd ~ The "username" upon signup should be?
Thanks ~Atrina~

Thanks ~Atrina~ 1) Yup. We have an index/database full of codes with complete directions for you to use. Most of us learn by making our first board and taking things slowly. As long as you have a some time to commit, it shouldn't be very overwhelming. 2) The username upon signup will be the name of your forum. If you want your forum to be something like awesomeforumname.proboards.com , then enter awesomeforumname as your username.

Thank you ッ T♪î‼, I really do appreciate your response. You mentioned something about "complete directions" ~ Would that be "directions" on how to set up the forum? And if it is, where may I find them?
The title may be a little long, is abbreviations or first letters a no~no? Or is there a limit on how long the "username" can be?

You can get step-by-step instructions on how to set up your forum by going to the Help section in the menu bar. Also, it's advised that you thoroughly checkout all the menu options, especially the Admin section, before you start opening up your forum to posters, or try to start adding new codes. As for the username, I'm not sure how long it can be, but I'm assuming it can have quite a few letters in it, because I've never heard of anyone complaining it was too short. Abbreviations or first letters are fine, just as long as you don't add any characters to your name. Good luck with your new forum, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask them here on the Support Board.

Thank you teestorms That's what I was really searching for. It was probably stated somewhere in the FAQ's that I didn't notice You said, When the forum is created, is it set up so that no one can join until the Admin does something to permit that? Also ~ I would like to add a moderator right away to the board. Can this be done without opening it up to membership? Say like myself assigning a nickname and a password so that ~ that person can help me? Could she then change either nickname or password once she arrives for obvious reasons? ~Atrina~

Hi No, when the forum is created, it is set up so people can register straight away. If you want to restrict it, or 'disable' signups, you can do this via General Settings in your admin area. For the moderator, could they not register themselves, or? Craig

~Craig~
I'm not sure about how long it will take me to get the gist of things when I create the forum, that's all I was referring to. So I thought it was disabled to begin with. I guess I presumed too much. Sorry about that.
Thank you all for all of your help. I have a feeling that more question shall be coming your way once I have created the forum.
Thanks ~Atrina~

Ok, I knew this was going to happen.
I don't see a catagory that "best describes my forum." It's more historical in nature that anything, so what does one choose? Any ideas?
Arts/Culture? Education? Entertainment? News & Current Events?

Entertainment? News & Current Events? If its about history or nature i would select either Education, or Arts/Culture, as History is both educational and part of our culture It is really up to you on which category you would have it be in. But those are my suggestions, hope they help
