Don't people post here to tell you your opinions wrong? 3 or 4 people quoted me within the next hour so I might as well tell them their right to keep them happy and move on. Meh. Keep quoting me so I can just tell you your right. ... Your Right I'm Wrong

Opinions can't be wrong. They are inherently unique to the person who holds them and thus cannot be declared right or wrong.
It is obvious from your posts that you are more than just upset at what the spammer has done and as such you feel that you are owed something for the trouble you went through.
This is how you feel and it should be acknowledged as just that: how you feel. Others who have been through the same experience may or may not feel the same. Many of them voiced that they do not feel the same way, and that should be acknowledged as the same: how they feel.
In your attempt to gain that which you feel you are owed, you have turned to the only people whom you can really talk to (ProBoards staff) since the spammer is unavailable for reply.
This isn't to say you are wrong or right. However I think the best course of action for you is to let go of the anger that you are holding onto. I understand how you feel. You want this guy to pay and trust me I, (and most likely the others) share your sentiment. However we also realize that such action would make us no better than he. He is taking advantage of a devious loop-hole in the law system. While his actions are not condoned and even illegal his methods of doing so are not. He has, at the least, lessened the punishment that would have come down on him. Had he hacked into a persons account or into ProBoards itself the repercussions would have been more than what he probably wanted to bargain for.
Also let's look at his possible profile. He's a college student, most likely at a major university where he's considered a number and a tuition fee. He doesn't know many people and the one's he does are also college students who like to drink and party. So to boost his own ego he plays games against the system. He sits there saying to himself "yeah you can't ban me!" And now let's stop and look at this scene. Kind of pathetic if you ask me.
So I urge you, ლ(ಠ益ಠ, to let this drop. We know that you are not pathetic like the spammer. We know that you run a respectable, organized and popular forum. So take heart that you are succeeding, take heart that you are within your rights to be angry at this guy, but also remember that the law must deal with him. And also take heart that everyone here is not against you.

Public forum or not it's pretty hurtful to see 3-4 people tell you that they disagree with you. Like Storm said for example, it's not fair that we wouldn't be able to use proxy's anymore, it's not fair to other staff forums that we have to clean up spam that has been going on for months and to see everyone siding with proboards staff when this has been going on for months. That is the issue. Their smart people I don't see why it's taken them this long to find out who the spammer was even when it's been reported months ago, that's what I'm upset about. Sure they have v5 to work on but if they can write amazing software like v5 then why would it take them so long to find a spammer? I'm not bashing anyone just saying that it could of been handled a lot better and sooner then it has taken them. I'm just a bit disappointed I feel as if I'm bringing up some good points and members are just backing up proboards because they like their staff. Again Coincidentally, were all guilty of giving the spammer more attentoin due to the fact were still posting about it if they don't want him to have any attention or hear our complaints about the situation then this topic should of been locked a while ago. Meh.

We were not able to put the pieces together until very recently. Like I said previously, we conducted an investigation into the matter, and we're still even dealing with this today.

To legally track him down, yes. It's not as simple as just coding a site. You're dealing with someone who knows how the technology works and knows how to make it work to their advantage.
And as with any legal matter you can't just make accusations or jump to conclusions. You have to get solid evidence and that can be tricky when your main evidence is an ever changing IP address.
I understand the frustration of having to wait, but such are bureaucratic proceedings of our legal system (to which ProBoards is obligated to follow). Ask any I.T. administrator and they'll tell you stories of the time they've wasted trying to figure out how the person did that or sent that message, got around the firewall ect.
I am not saying that I am siding with anyone, but I do believe that ProBoards was working diligently, and as fast as the law would permit them, on the problem. Patrick may correct me if I am wrong on any of this.
Edit: Thank you Patrick for the clarification.

I get what your saying but was it really that hard to track him down? To track the IP to the college it probably didn't take very long, in some cases this could be 10 minutes on a locator and domain site. To track the actual person would need intervention from the college, this takes more time in contacting the college, but first a case has to be compiled as evidence, you can't just ask the college who was on their IP at certain times, anything like this needs a paper trail. Remember that ProBoards want to do everything within the law, and should it come to it, be able to stand up in court with the evidence that cannot be contested. So yeah, simple in the first instance, but more complex in the second.

Don't expect people to simply ignore your posts as you are just as guilty about replying to other people's posts that were intended for other people. And why should Proboard's apologize? It's not their fault some [removed - watch the language please] is going around harassing people. They are giving people temporary solutions in what to do while they take care of what they have to do. It's not everyone's business to know what Patrick and the admins are doing to deal with the issue. You don't go into war blurting out to the enemy that you there to blow up their tanks.

But the point being, the admins can't just tell everyone what they are doing to take care of it. And, did you even go to the support board to ask for help with the spamming issue? If you hadn't, then that's not their fault either. They gave people the tools to help with taking care of this. It takes time to track things down. Just like when people get warnings. It's not anyone else's business what happened to the person that got the warning. Just because it looks like it wasn't taken care of, doesn't mean it wasn't.

I sent Ricky tons of PMs, since I'm not the main admin it's not really my place to announce it but since we all took part in cleaning up the forum I feel that I should at least let them know. I'm a gmod on that site if your wondering, and before the spam attacks that site was a very fun place to kick back at. All they did was tell us to limit reg and turn on MM mode which we have done numerous times we've been hit with spam about 8 different times. Theres 21 pages there in that image and it's not conversation what so ever it's just spam posts.
