This is my forumHi! I just made my first attempt at changing the icons on my forum, I tried changing the little birthday cake that appears in the IC. I hosted the image (.jpg file) and changed the URL in the customize images sections but nothing happened. Is there a specific extension that images have to have, maybe? My other question is, once I'm able to change the icons, do I have to repeat the process for every skin? TIA! ETA - the little birthday icon belonged to its code in the MF so that's where I changed the image. ;D

1) Your forum doesn't allow guest viewing so we can't see anything unless we have an account. Might want to change that in your General Settings.
2) Sometimes you need to refresh again for the images to switch properly. Make sure that you updated the correct image in the correct skin, and there was no linking problem. Png's and gif's are the best choice for file extensions just because they allow transparent backgrounds. Never tried tiffs, but I do know that jpegs work, but they have no transparent background capability.
3) Yes, you'd have to change the icons separately for every skin. This is pretty nice since then for different skins you can have suitable themed icons instead of every skin with the same thing

There's no need for guests to be able to look at icons that look exactly the same as the ones here on this board. The forum is set to private 'cause that's how the members want it.
Thanks for your input, though.

If you were changing your icons than they wouldn't be exactly the same as on here. Unless your site is only for real life friends or personal contacts, I would suggest putting your categories on private and leave your general stuff, such as rules and information about your site, open to guest viewing. Otherwise you won't be getting any new members.
But that's only if you wanted to get random new people on your site. Just keep in mind that no one here will be able to look at anything on your site to give anything but general feedback based on past experiences. Usually the only other times you see a forum page like that in guest view is when a forum is in Maintenance mode or inactive but no one deleted the forum. Makes it seem like a dead site.
