SSDs layout always confused me - I frequented one of their competitors that I can't remember the name of now. Remember the days when every other forum was a graphic design one, not an RP one? Wait 'til v6 comes out and we have graphic design RP's. Syko looked at the forum with a scowl. No, he thought, this skin is terrible. I must add side tables and a gigantic banner. But before he could act, The Dark Knight jumped out of the bushes in front of him. "I shall make this entire forum black with white text, for that is the absolute best color scheme for a forum to have. And, best of all, there shall be absolutely no side tables or banners!" He laughed evilly. Syko quickly drew his revolver, realizing this would be a battle to the death. Retread looks at timestamp and giggles.

I learned so much from SSD. Before joining I was in the pinnacle of my awkward teens; I had not even the slightest idea about how to form a sentence let alone what it meant to have a discussion online. I swear that my childish dabbling in “coding” back in the early proboards days is what lead me to become a software developer. It also got me interested in photography and gave me so many creative outlets that helped me through those strange adolescent years.
I definitely miss the place. It’s nice to hear all the names from back then.
Also I realize I essentially said the exact same thing a few pages back. I can’t help but reminisce.

Anyone have screenshots of the orange/grey SSD design? Would love to see it again for nostalgia. v1, v2, v3, v4, v5v6 might be there somewhere, but I couldn't find it, maybe James [a_leon] has a screen shot or something. v5 stayed around for a long time, and was probably my fav (was easy to code as well). v4 was a nightmare to code, we dropped a lot of cool stuff from that one, as it was just so awkward, and in the end, we weren't 100% happy with it. Me and Alan had another one we were working on that was very unique (and I think was going to be for v6), but we ditched it. Can't find the test forum for it, so no screen shot for that one. Unfortunately some images are missing and layout is wrong. We didn't think to keep the images. If I had them, I would probably add them all to the SSD forum so people could switch between them all to see what they were like. Was a lot of painful coding back in the day to get things how you wanted All of the screenshots and hosted codes I had disappeared when I lost the host I was using. I used to have archives of every RPG released by you, WebWorldX, and...oh, what on earth was his name. Symphonic killer? I remember he was a bit of a cowboy and that did sit well with the SSD staff and that caused some drama as v5 was coming out and Peter had to make sure his CMS us mods could use was well protected from injections.

Syphonic Killer. Apparently went by the name Zero Tolerance too, but I don't remember that one. Seem to recall him having an outrageous RPG code that he charged for, and there being talk that some of his work was questionable in regards to ToS?

I just re read all this thread about brought back great memories For those people asking about Zanmato Designs that was a forum that me and my friend Tom started. We were both on SSD for a long time then started our own forum After all this time I still chat with Tom occasionally and we both work in the same industry about 20 miles from each other. Funny how things works out! Haven’t spoke to Ollie in a long time now but still have Uc on Facebook and I believe she now lives with Alan? If anyone remembers him! I loved all of the Zanmato Designs versions!! Your site was hands down the best and most artistic of all. It's too bad it's not around now. Do you have screenshots of the Zanmato versions by chance? I'd love to relive them again!
Your site inspired me majorly with graphic design and web development. Makes me wonder what your profession is, but I don't mean to pry.
Are there still sites like Zanmato and SSD, or is this a completely lost art now?

It was the main forum that helped me learn more about coding and graphics. I definitely miss it!

What would we really accomplish if the forum was reopened? Some of the old guard would come back for a little bit, but would quickly go back to their lives. Most of us stay in touch via Facebook, fortunately. But I don't see SSD ever becoming even a fraction of what it once was. It's just a major nostalgia trip.
